Orlen has opened the first large charging center in Schleswig-Holstein (Google Maps HERE), and this investment could earn positive reviews if it were accessible. It’s a shame, as there are reasons to praise it: there is clear information about charging prices at the entrance, the stations are covered, and there are plenty of them. The location also features solar panels that power the chargers, along with a self-service store that accepts automatic payments for products.

Orlen Charge in Elmshorn. This is what electric vehicle charging stations should look like.

The Orlen Charge charging station is nothing special in that area, as the operator already had 8 charging points there with a capacity of 180 kW — complaints arose that there were too many and they were located too close to the cinema. Slightly further from the interchange on highway number 23, they also installed a charger with a capacity of 300 kW. However, the current hub is quite large, offering drivers as many as 16 charging points, each with a capacity of 400 kW. The location was announced on July 2, but according to reviews on Google Maps, the chargers were already not working by July 6. The press photos (second set) indeed show that some work is still underway there:

It’s a shame because the location looks great and was promoted by Felix Hammer (@electricfelix), a popular European internet user who writes about electromobility. He praised the location for having a sign indicating power output, information on charger availability, and the energy price (0.49 euros, equivalent to 2.1 zł/kWh), and even hoped that other German operators would follow suit. Observers also noticed coffee being sold for 1 euro, while the regular price is around 4 euros.

A Polish OIL giant just installed this sign in Germany

Orlen promises an on-site self-service store offering snacks, drinks, and car accessories, as well as toilets, rest areas, tire inflators, and car vacuums [which would be ideal near charging stations… – editor]. The company currently has over 600 gas stations and 220 charging points in Germany. By the end of 2026, it aims to add “another 360 fast charging points at popular shopping centers.” In Poland, Orlen Charge’s largest charging stations have 8 slots, and the operator has also launched the country’s first ultra-fast charger.

Editor’s note from Elektrowozu: We checked. There is indeed no such station in the Orlen app.
