Skoda Elroq software has issues. To restart: hold the power button for 10-15 seconds

It turns out that the latest version of the software installed in the Skoda Elroq (ME6, based on Android Automotive) has numerous issues with screen image desynchronization, audio synchronization (music), and it sometimes loses entire window contents (black rectangles). In such cases, the best solution is to force a system restart. The worst option is installing a new version of the software if we are on the road.

The multimedia system in the Skoda Elroq for the 2026 model year and all new vehicles based on the MEB+ platform — namely ME6 in Skodas, ID. Software 6.x in Volkwagens — runs on Android Automotive. This gives it a range of features that previous cars lacked, especially the ability to install popular apps from the Google Play Store. But it turns out that newer doesn’t necessarily mean better. The software in Skodas has been, and still is, prone to errors; reportedly, buyers of this brand’s cars are the first to learn this trick.

It’s important to remember that restarting the system is done by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds, which controls the “screen,” or in other words, the multimedia system. Restarting can be done while driving; this will temporarily cause the screen content to disappear, including music, sounds, and navigation, but all of the car’s essential subsystems should still function normally.

It turns out that with such problems, it’s better not to stop the vehicle. The editor-in-chief of Auto.cz portal, who encountered the above issue, pulled over to a parking lot — and that’s when the car started updating its software. Strangely, it didn’t request approval for the operation; it simply began installing the update, leaving the Elroq disabled for about an hour. After all, the car doesn’t function during software updates, and the estimated time for completion is merely approximate.
