After several weeks of maintenance work and process optimization, the Opel plant in Eisenach resumed regular production on Monday. Production at the Thuringian facility had been suspended on a day-to-day basis since the beginning of October, according to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa).

A company spokesperson said the measures were taken for maintenance work and to optimize production processes, with the goal of enabling higher output of electric vehicles in the future.

Currently, Opel produces the Grandland in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions. Approximately half of the vehicles manufactured in Eisenach are already electric-powered, according to the company. Opel aims to raise the proportion of electric models produced in Eisenach to around 60 to 70 percent by the end of the year, according to dpa.

In the past, there have been repeated short-term production stops at this plant. The facility operates on two shifts and employs around 1,100 people.
