The Chinese automaker Chery has unveiled the new Omoda X. This 4.95-meter-long concept vehicle combines features of an SUV with off-road-oriented design and sporty styling elements. The manufacturer refers to this vehicle category as a “Cross Off-Road Vehicle.” Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains are planned, with the Omoda X serving as a preview of future model generations.

The design follows the styling language referred to by Omoda as “Super Mecha,” which was already introduced on the Omoda 4. It features prominent geometric lines, wide vehicle shoulders, and a angular body shape. The Omoda X measures 4954 millimeters in length, 1920 millimeters in width, and 1702 millimeters in height. The wheelbase is 2700 millimeters, while the tail lights have a lightning-bolt shaped lighting pattern.

For use off paved roads, Omoda specifies a ground clearance of 200 millimeters and a designed wading depth of over 700 millimeters. Additionally, it offers a maximum towing capacity of 1800 kilograms and a roof load capacity of 75 kilograms. There are 39 storage areas available inside the vehicle. The values mentioned refer to the concept car presented and are not yet the definitive technical specifications for a European production version.

Omoda plans three variants for the powertrains: a classic hybrid with two-wheel drive, a plug-in hybrid, and a battery-electric model. Both of the latter powertrain types will come in both two-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. No details on engine power, battery size, electric range, or charging speed are available yet.

In the cockpit, the Omoda X combines a digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster with a central 13.2-inch touchscreen. Physical controls for frequently used functions such as climate control and driving modes remain available. Part of the presented technology concept are also an AI-based voice assistant, a customizable X-Mode, and an infrared camera that is said to be able to detect potential obstacles from up to 90 meters away according to the manufacturer. A microphone system with four detection zones also enables an integrated karaoke function.

With the Omoda X, the Chery Group’s brand expands its crossover strategy, which has so far focused on models like the Omoda 5, Omoda 7, and Omoda 4, with a larger vehicle concept geared more toward off-roading. Omoda has not announced a specific launch date for Germany and other European markets yet. However, the introduction of the Omoda X via a dedicated German-language press release suggests that a model based on it is also planned for these regions.
