OMODA unveils its new SUV, a serious competitor to the Dacia Duster: it will be hybrid, have 224 HP, and cost less than 25,000 €

The arrival of Chinese manufacturers in Europe and Spain has accelerated. Chery Group is, after BYD, the largest Chinese seller in both the domestic and continental markets. The brand has grown exponentially in a short time. Currently, its fleet consists of the OMODA 5, OMODA 7, and OMODA 9. A fourth model will join them in a few months. It is a new compact SUV designed to lead the company’s sales in our country and much of the Old Continent. We are referring to the OMODA 4.
OMODA has unveiled the Omoda 4 for the first time in its home market. This new SUV is built on Chery Group’s modular T1X platform. Its exterior dimensions are 4.42 meters in length, 1.87 meters in width, and 1.57 meters in height—exactly matching the length of its closest rival, the MG ZS, and coming very close to other key competitors in this category such as the Dacia Duster and its siblings, the JAECOO 5 and EBRO S400, which share the same platform.
224 HP SHS hybrid powertrain with turbo engine and LFP battery
Like the rest of the range, OMODA’s fourth model in Spain will be available in several mechanical configurations. The biggest seller is expected to be the OMODA 4 SHS, equipped with a plug-in hybrid system. This mechanical setup combines a four-cylinder gasoline internal combustion engine, turbocharged and with 1.5 liters of displacement, with an electric propulsion system powered by an LFP battery with a capacity of 1.83 kWh.
With limited electric range, the combined mechanical system will deliver 224 horsepower. All of this power will be directed to the front axle through an automatic transmission. While its fuel consumption and range are still pending certification, figures are expected to be around 5.3 or 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers—these are the certified figures for the JAECOO 5 SHS hybrid and the EBRO S400 hybrid, respectively. Its mechanical setup allows it to earn the DGT ECO rating.
100% electric version with 211 CV and 60.9 kWh battery
In addition to an interesting hybrid option that will become the most popular, OMODA will also offer a zero-emission variant. Once again, we need to look at its Chery siblings to estimate the specifications. In this case, we’ll focus on the JAECOO 5, as the EBRO s400 does not have a fully electric alternative. The OMODA 4 version powered solely by batteries will see its power reduced to 211 horsepower.
It will be equipped with a LFP battery with a gross capacity of 60.9 kWh, offering an estimated range of around 400 kilometers (WLTP). Its suitability as a family car will be limited by a lower actual range and a maximum continuous power output of 130 kW. Charging via alternating current will occur at a maximum rate of 11 kW.
Market Positioning and Estimated Pricing for Spain
Official sales through the dealership network will begin in the coming weeks. The selling price for the OMODA 4 hybrid is expected to start around 25,000 euros, with discounts and promotions bringing it down to the 20,000 euro mark. This is a highly competitive price considering its features. Its electric version will be slightly more expensive, at around 30,000 euros before any government subsidies. OMODA’s sales network, comprising over 100 dealerships across Spain, is already preparing for its arrival. The first units are expected to be delivered before the end of this academic year.
