NX Technologies develops inverters for lightweight electric vehicles

NX Technologies, a specialist in power electronics for electric vehicles, plans to develop a range of innovative inverters for lightweight electric cars. For this R&D project scheduled to conclude by 2029, NX Technologies is now receiving financial support from Spain’s PERTE funding program in the amount of 1.9 million euros.

NX Technologies is headquartered in San Sebastián, Spain, and specializes in compact traction systems for electric vehicles. Through initial efforts to expand internationally, the company has since expanded its operations to the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, India, and the United States. However, Spain remains the core of this eMobility specialist’s operations, which is why NX Technologies has now qualified for funding under PERTE there as well.

The 1.9 million euros are intended to be invested in the research and development of a next-generation traction inverters for lightweight electric vehicles. This project, scheduled to run from 2026 to 2029, is part of the fifth round of funding under PERTE VEC, Spain’s industrial policy subsidy program.

NX Technologies states that it is launching this R&D project during a period of significant growth. Since its founding, the company has raised over 10 million euros in public and private funding and invested 5.2 million euros in research and development, it says. Additionally, its team of around 40 employees grew by 50 percent last year.

It is important to the company that it develops and manufactures its products entirely in Europe. The PERTE grant is intended to enable NX Technologies to “accelerate technology development and enter new markets in the field of lightweight electric mobility—a rapidly growing segment with few specialized suppliers.”

In general, the company manufactures not only compact and lightweight inverters but also battery management systems (BMS) for all types of electric vehicles – from light vehicles such as motorcycles and quads to heavy vehicles like trucks, buses, and tractors.

Mikel Peral, CEO of NX Technologies, commented: “With this new product line, we aim to make cutting-edge technology available for a wide range of light vehicles for which there are currently few European solutions that can meet future market demands – from road, sea, to air vehicles. The PERTE program gives us the drive to accelerate development and compete with the best [...].”
