New Nissan PIXO: introduced as the Japanese counterpart to the Renault Twingo, with a range of up to 259 km

The new Nissan PIXO is now here. The launch of this affordable urban electric vehicle marks the Japanese brand’s return to the A-segment, a category it had been absent from for over a decade. It is set to become the new entry point into its electric lineup, which currently consists of four models: the Micra, Juke, LEAF, and Ariya.

Just like the Nissan Micra/Renault 5 duo, the new Nissan PIXO is based on a model from Renault’s own lineup: the Twingo. Both will be manufactured together at Renault’s plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, where they will share space with the Dacia Spring. All three models are built on the same platform: the RGEV Small. Like its siblings, the PIXO is likely to have a starting price of less than 20,000 euros before any subsidies.

The PIXO measures 3,796 mm in length, 1,512 mm in height, and 1,790 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,492 mm. While the Dacia differs significantly from the Renault, the Nissan is much more similar. That said, the front end is completely new: the Twingo features a monovolume silhouette with the hood perfectly aligned with the windshield; in contrast, the PIXO has a more horizontal hood. The rounded, protruding headlights of the Renault give way to square light groups with Nissan’s signature lighting integrated into them.

The front end features a very clean design, as it lacks a grille. The only change on the sides are the specific tires. At the rear, the bumpers, trunk lid, tail lights (which have shapes similar to those of the front headlights), and the black frame around the rear window are modified. Inside, both the upper section of the dashboard, which has a different shape, and the interior trim are changed. Additionally, there are some specific decorative elements, such as the engraving of the model name on the door panels. The second row of seats is sliding, allowing priority to be given either to leg space or to the trunk, which has a capacity of up to 356 liters.

The Nissan PIXO comes standard with fast charging

The propulsion system is identical to that used in the Twingo and Spring: it combines an 82 HP (60 kW) engine with a 27.5 kWh LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery, which provides a range of up to 259 km WLTP (263 km WLTP for the Renault and 250 km WLTP for the Dacia). But there is a fundamental change: fast DC charging, which is optional on its siblings, comes standard here.

With a peak power of 50 kW, the Nissan PIXO can go from 15% to 80% charge in approximately 28 minutes. AC charging at 11 kW is also part of its standard equipment. As for the onboard technology, notable features include Google’s Gemini assistant, adaptive cruise control, hands-free parking system, and One Pedal system, all of which are included standard.

"The PIXO shows that great things can come in small packages. Its compact size allows it to fit seamlessly into European cities, and we’ve also worked hard to maximize interior space, creating a cabin that feels spacious, practical, and comfortable. I’m eager to see how our customers embrace this new electric Nissan — bold, fun, and perfectly suited for urban environments," says Masato Koyama, chief exterior designer at Nissan Global Design.
