New BYD Dolphin G DM-i, price starting at 23,490 euros, equivalent to 99,900 zł. Plug-in hybrid cheaper than Toyota Yaris Cross

BYD has revealed the trim levels and prices for the BYD Dolphin G DM-i in several Western markets. The base Active version comes with a 7.42 kWh LFP battery and costs 28,990 euros, but a discount called BYD E-Bonus is available immediately, reducing the price by 5,500 euros to 23,490 euros, which is equivalent to 99,900 Polish zlotys or about 103,300 zlotys. For comparison, in Germany, the base Toyota Yaris Cross costs 24,205.2 euros after discounts (equivalent to 106,400 zlotys), and its buyer is NOT eligible for a federal subsidy of 4,500 euros.

It is clear then that BYD positions its smallest plug-in hybrid below Toyota’s official price for the Yaris Cross.

Update: 2026/06/15, 17:01. The Polish prices have been announced. Nevertheless, we have kept the original article text below.

Higher-end trims

BYD reacts quickly to market needs. When it noticed Europe’s cautious approach to electric vehicles, it began selling plug-in hybrids. It started with larger and more expensive models before gradually moving down to lower price segments. However, targeting the city car class (segment B) is a highly bold move, as consumers of this type of vehicle are sensitive to purchase costs, and the combustion engine plus battery-electric powertrain doesn’t help optimize prices.

BYD knows this, which is why it immediately reduces the list price with a discount, and it also informs customers about the possibility of receiving a German federal subsidy of 4,500 euros.

Prices

We quickly calculated that if the BYD E-Bonus discount for the Dolphin G DM-i were also available in Poland, the price list would look as follows [preliminary calculations by Elektrowozu; takes VAT rate differences into account; source].

BYD Dolphin G DM-i Active 7.42 (~6.5) kWh – 103,300 zlotys after discount, 127,400 zlotys listed price,

BYD Dolphin G DM-i Boost 18.3 (~17.2) kWh – 116,500 zlotys after discount, 140,600 zlotys listed price,

BYD Dolphin G DM-i Comfort 18.3 (~17.2) kWh – 123,000 złotys after discount, listed at 147,200 złotys,

BYD Dolphin G DM-i Sport 18.3 (~17.2) kWh – 127,400 złotys after discount, listed at 151,600 złotys.

The prices do not include German subsidies, of course. The Polish prices for this model are expected to be announced next week. The BYD Dolphin G DM-i in its base Active version looks like this:

Specifications

The base BYD Dolphin G DM-i /dimensions: 4.16 m long, 2.61 m wheelbase, 1.44 or 1.555 t weight depending on battery/has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 70 kW/95 HP and an electric motor with 120 kW/163 HP and 210 Nm of torque. The battery in the Active version, holding 7.4 (~6.5) kWh of energy, allows for 40 WLTP units in electric mode, around 34 kilometers in urban or city-suburban mode. The total range is 1,020 WLTP units. The model’s charger is single-phase, reaching up to 3.3 kW. Importantly: the Dolphin G’s trunk capacity is 425 liters, with a floor storage compartment holding 45 liters.

The standard equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, LED tail lights and daytime running lights, as well as a 10.1-inch screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Higher trim levels

The Boost, Comfort, and Sport versions have the same engines, the same 210 Nm of torque from the electric motor, and the same 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.3 seconds, but they come with a 18.3 (~17.2) kWh battery that allows for up to 105 WLTP units of range, or around 90 kilometers in urban or urban-suburban driving conditions. Interestingly, the model with the larger battery consumes slightly more fuel on average (though not during the first 100 kilometers), at 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers instead of 4.3 liters. Even more interestingly, this variant is equipped with a 39 kW fast charging port that enables it to reach 80% charge in 26 minutes. Purchasing the version with a larger battery also allows activation of the V2L mode for powering external devices.

Starting with the Boost version, the central screen has a diagonal size of 12.8 inches. The package also includes heated front seats, a phone wireless charger, air vents for rear passengers, and an audio system with 8 speakers. The Comfort variant features a head-up display (HUD), a glass roof with sunroof, 360-degree cameras, skai fabric with stitching, and an electric driver’s seat. In the most premium Sport version, the additional features are mainly stylistic (including 18-inch wheels).

According to BYD’s statements, the car shipped to Europe several weeks ago and is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2026.

Note from Elektrowozu’s editorial team: We asked whether the head-up display resembles the one in the Mini (a small screen on the steering column) or if it’s a real image projected onto the car’s windshield.
