Will the new BMW iX5 Neue Klasse have a battery with a capacity of ~148 (141) kWh? Does that mean the BMW i5 Neue Klasse will exceed 1,000 WLTP units?

The rumors from a few months ago are confirmed: the BMW iX5 will feature a battery with a usable capacity exceeding 140 kWh. According to some websites, this will be 148 kWh in total and 141 kWh available to the user in Europe. In the United States, where the measurement method is slightly different, the usable capacity with these same battery packs is expected to be 144 kWh. These figures are not final, according to journalists from some American media outlets who were invited for test drives.
BMW iX5 with range similar to the iX3, but more endurance?
The maximum range of the BMW iX3 exceeds 800 WLTP units. The range of the BMW iX5 should be similar, but it’s possible it could be better or “hidden,” similar to Porsche models, so drivers aren’t unpleasantly surprised by the decreasing range when driving more dynamically. BMW is also striving to ensure that its Neue Klasse electric vehicles are designed very well—unlike older models—and can compete effectively with cars from China.
Car & Driver claims that the most powerful version in the entire BMW X5 lineup will be the BMW iX5 60 xDrive, delivering 424 kW/576 HP. The battery will use 46115/46120 cells (46 mm in diameter, 115/120 mm in height, Li-NCx chemistry), but the final details regarding capacity and chemical specifics are expected to be announced later. Thanks to the Neue Klasse architecture and higher voltage in the powertrain, the estimated charging time from 10% to 80% will be just over twenty minutes. The same battery pack used in the new BMW i5 should enable it to achieve 900-1,000 WLTP units, figures previously seen only in Chinese electric vehicles with semi-solid-state batteries [editorial speculation from Elektrowozu].
The same battery may also be used in the BMW i7 and Rolls-Royce Spectre III.
Journalists at the portal noted that the suspension models include “practically all available (optional) features,” including active lateral stabilizers. Pneumatics and steering rear wheels are offered as options, but the higher-end variants (the BMW X5 50e and iX5 60) are said to be tuned for luxury. One reason cited for this decision is the weight difference of up to 600 kilograms between the gasoline-powered X5 40 and the electric iX5 60 xDrive. This gives a good indication of how heavy the battery will be, and that… solid-state electrolyte cells were used in it [again: editorial speculation].
The new BMW X5 G65 in a gasoline version is set to debut within a few months. Shortly after that, the electric BMW iX5 will arrive. Last to enter the market will be the hydrogen-powered BMW iX5 Hydrogen. Based on the battery capacity, the hydrogen model may have the shortest range of the entire lineup.
