New Audi A2 e-tron: PRICE starting at 38,200 euros, cheaper than ID.3 Neo. Record range on MEB+ RWD, as appealing as a Chinese car

The Audi A2 e-tron made its debut, a vehicle developed using exactly the same principles as its gasoline-powered predecessor. It is the most fuel-efficient model on the MEB+ RWD platform in terms of energy consumption, but this low energy use comes with a caveat. The model is also surprisingly affordable: prices for the Audi A2 e-tron in Germany start at 38,200 euros. Converted to our market, this amounts to around 170,200 złoty for the weakest variant with the smallest battery capacity of 52 (50) kWh.

Let’s start with the highlight regarding record-low energy consumption and range. If we want Audi’s lowest-ever energy consumption of 12.8 kWh/100 WLTP units (~15 kWh/100 km), we must choose the 140 kW/190 hp version paired with a 61 (58) kWh battery and equip it with the optional Efficiency Package [name preliminarily translated]. The range for this variant isn’t specified, but it is expected to be around 530-540 WLTP units; with the Efficiency Package, it could reach around 550 WLTP units.

Three batteries, four engine powers

If we’re interested in the Audi A2 e-tron’s maximum WLTP range of 646 units, we’ll choose the version with the largest 84 (79) kWh battery and a 170 kW/231 hp engine that drives the rear wheels. 646 units equate to 552 kilometers in urban or urban-suburban driving conditions, 388 kilometers at 120 km/h, or 297 kilometers at 140 km/h [preliminary calculations by Elektrowozu]. The Audi A2 e-tron’s drag coefficient Cx is 0.24, so at higher speeds the results should be better than those from our calculations. However, it won’t be cheap.

The largest battery, 84 (79) kWh, can be paired with the APP550 engine delivering 240 kW. Alternatively, it can be used with the APP350 engine (shown below), which provides up to 170 kW.

A more affordable version will also be available: featuring a battery with a capacity of 51 (~49) kWh and an engine with a power output of 125 kW/170 hp. The price for this variant is expected to start at 38,200 euros, which is equivalent to 170,200 zlotys in Poland. In Germany, this amount is lower than that of the VW ID.3 Neo; here, for such a price, we would get an ID.3 Neo with an average battery capacity of 61 (58) kWh and an engine of 140 kW (source).

The largest battery can also be combined with a tuned APP550 engine offering 240 kW/326 hp.

Extraordinary Equipment and Features

The Audi A2 e-tron will come standard with features such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), a rearview mirror with camera, a 12.8-inch central display, and the mysterious Parking System Plus. If it’s Park Assist Plus, the A2 e-tron will be able to automatically locate an available parking space and align itself in it. The door handles can only be opened electrically from the outside, so each door has its own battery to power the unlock button in case of an accident.

Depending on the variant, charging from 10 to 80 percent will take between 26 and 29 minutes. The Audi A2 e-tron will also be able to power external devices (V2L) as well as homes or the electrical grid (V2H, V2G). The V2H function is set to be available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The company claims it developed the car in 21 months less time than its predecessors, though it should be noted that the model is based on Volkswagen’s existing MEB+ platform, which has already been used for several other vehicles (Ford Explorer, VW ID.3, etc.).

Orders for the car will begin to be accepted in Germany on September 10. Deliveries are scheduled to start in December 2026. The Polish website for the model can be found HERE.
