Nissan will have an alternative to the electric Juke

In its second generation, the Nissan Kicks is set to arrive in Europe. Produced in the UK, it will serve as an alternative to the electric Juke.

Nissan announced the full electrification of the third generation Juke, but the Japanese brand will still offer a model with a combustion engine in one of Europe’s most competitive segments. It just won’t be called Juke.

Originally launched in 2016 as a compact SUV for emerging markets, the Nissan Kicks has since seen a second generation and is now preparing to enter the European market.

Currently produced in Japan, Mexico, and Brazil, the Kicks will also be manufactured at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, UK, joining the Juke, Leaf, and Qashqai that are already produced there.

This investment in production in the UK represents a £170 million, or about €200 million, commitment to that factory.

Electric, but not fully

In the UK, the Kicks will use Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid technology, which we’ve already had the chance to experience in both the Qashqai and X-Trail.

In this hybrid system, the gasoline engine acts as a generator, producing electricity to power the electric motor and, when needed, recharge the battery. Traction is provided exclusively by the electric motor.

For now, this is the only technical detail about the Kicks revealed by Nissan, with the Japanese brand choosing to keep the launch date and other technical specifications secret. It has not been disclosed either whether the Nissan Kicks will have any engines other than the hybrid e-POWER.

What is certain is that Nissan is keeping its promises by launching a significant range of products in Europe, all aimed at regaining market share on the “Old Continent.”

It should be noted that the Nissan Kicks is Nissan’s second new vehicle in Europe this month. The first was the announcement of a new compact electric car in segment A, which resumes the Pixo name.
