Nissan has announced a new model called Kicks for the European market, investing 170 million pounds in its plant in Sunderland, UK. This compact C-segment crossover will be produced there alongside the Qashqai, Juke, and Leaf. The Kicks is equipped with Nissan’s e-Power hybrid technology.
The second generation of the Kicks is currently produced in Japan, Mexico, and Brazil and sold worldwide. The manufacturer reports that over 1.8 million units have been sold in more than 70 markets. With this new announcement, the model’s debut in Europe is now imminent, adding another vehicle with e-Power propulsion to its lineup.
The Kicks will be the tenth model to be produced at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in England. For customers in the UK, Europe, and Turkey, the Kicks will be manufactured in Sunderland using Nissan’s third-generation e-Power system. The current generation of this partial electric system was introduced in 2025 and has been significantly overhauled according to Nissan.
In e-Power configurations, the wheels are driven solely by an electric motor. A small gasoline engine generates electricity to charge the onboard battery, eliminating the need for external charging. Instead, the vehicle is refueled with gasoline at a gas station. Technical details regarding the e-Power setup of the Kicks for the European market have not yet been released.
We are very pleased to be able to manufacture the new Nissan Kicks here in Sunderland,” says Adam Pennick, Vice President Manufacturing at Nissan Sunderland. Next year, the new generation of the Nissan Juke is also set to launch at this facility, debuting as a fully electric model for the first time. The announcement of the Kicks follows closely on the heels of the new electric Nissan Pixo in the compact car segment, which is scheduled to be officially unveiled soon.
