The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio has launched a new “Power Swap Station” (PSS) in Staufenberg-Lutterberg, Germany. As the 22nd of its kind in the country, this battery swap station enables fully automated replacement of the drive battery within minutes. It is a third-generation station, PSS 3.0.

The station, located at Triftstraße 11 in Staufenberg-Lutterberg, is situated northeast of Kassel, right on the A7 highway between Hannover and Frankfurt, thus filling a gap along the north-south axis.

The nearest Power Swap stations are located in Reiskirchen, about 130 kilometers south, and in Hannover-Großburgwedel, roughly 160 kilometers north. Nio explains that this location is particularly relevant for customers traveling from southern Germany or Southern Europe to Scandinavia.

At a Nio Power Swap station, the rented battery of the Chinese company’s electric vehicle is automatically replaced with a charged battery pack within about three minutes, without the user needing to leave the vehicle. The company emphasizes that the condition of both the battery and the drive system is checked with each battery swap.

The newest German battery swap station in Staufenberg-Lutterberg is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. According to Nio, the company currently operates 61 Power Swap Stations across Europe and continues to expand its network regularly.
