The Nio Firefly with a 60 kWh battery has a CLTC range of 560 km. Current owners will also receive it.

Nio offers the urban Firefly in China an optional CATL battery with a capacity of 60 kWh instead of the previous 42 kWh. The range in CLTC cycles increases from 420 to 560 km. The new battery pack has the same dimensions and weight as the old one, so current owners can also order it, with the replacement taking place at a swap station.

This is the second upgrade to the Firefly in a year. In spring, the vehicle received a more powerful drive system during a refresh with no price change: 120 kW instead of 105 kW. Now Nio has focused on the battery.

Same space, more energy

According to the manufacturer, the new battery pack fits inside the old one because it uses three-component lithium cells instead of LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) cells, which store more energy at the same weight. The capacity increases from 42 to 60 kWh, representing about a 43% boost. Range increases by 140 km according to CLTC, while electrive.com estimates around 340 and 454 km under WLTP standards. In Chinese conditions with air conditioning and on highways, the range will be lower, as is usual with figures provided from China.

The new Firefly with the larger battery costs starting at 136,800 yuan (approximately 81,000 zł).

Upgrade for those who bought the car with a battery

Owners who purchased the Firefly with a battery can permanently upgrade it to a 60 kWh version, but only one year after the purchase date. The additional cost is 17,000 yuan (about 10,000 zł), and the physical swap takes place at fifth-generation swap stations. This has only become possible recently, as Firefly was added to these stations in August when Nio launched the first locations in seven cities. Previously, the smaller brand simply did not fit into the older stations.

Those who ordered the vehicle by October 22, 2026, and completed the swap by the end of 2027 will receive additional points worth 2,000 yuan (about 1,200 zł).

Renting the battery: 200 yuan more per month

A separate option is available for customers who rent batteries as part of a subscription (the BaaS model, meaning a car purchased without a battery). They can also switch to the 60 kWh package permanently by paying a one-time service fee of 3000 yuan (around 1800 zł). The monthly subscription fee increases from 399 yuan to 599 yuan, or from about 240 zł to 350 zł, resulting in an additional cost of around 2400 yuan per year. As part of a temporary promotion, first-time buyers who meet the criteria receive a 1000 yuan voucher, effectively reducing the cost of the upgrade to 2000 yuan.

Firefly is partially available in Europe, but Nio has not indicated whether the 60 kWh version and the battery swap program will be launched outside of China.

From the editorial team: In spring, the base Firefly cost 119,800 yuan, while the new model with a 60 kWh battery starts at 136,800 yuan. The difference is exactly 17,000 yuan, the same amount the current owner pays for an upgrade, so Nio does not charge older customers a premium for purchasing earlier.
