New Omoda 5: more luxury and 430 km range for around €35,000

The new Omoda 5 will arrive in the Netherlands at the end of 2026. This all-electric SUV features a new interior, more cargo space, and faster charging capabilities. With a range of 430 kilometers, comprehensive standard equipment, and an expected starting price of around €35,000, Omoda aims to continue its growth in the Dutch market.
Omoda is growing, and so is the Omoda 5
Chinese automakers have long struggled to establish a foothold in the Netherlands and Belgium, but that situation is changing rapidly. MG and BYD in particular have built up a solid presence, while Leapmotor is also selling more cars. Omoda is benefiting from this trend as well. Along with its sister brand Jaecoo, which also belongs to the Chinese Chery Group, the brand registered over 3,500 cars in the Netherlands in the first nine months of 2026. In Belgium, both brands are growing strongly as well. There, BYD and MG were among the top 20 best-selling automakers after just ten months.
Yet we shouldn’t overestimate the success of the Omoda 5 itself. The brands are still relatively small, and a significant portion of registrations come from other models and powertrains. With the updated electric Omoda 5, the manufacturer aims to further strengthen its position, and this involves more than just a few cosmetic changes.

Larger, more spacious, and with a sleeker appearance
The new Omoda 5 retains its recognizable sloping roofline but features a redesigned front end. The rear has also been updated with altered body details and a striking lighting design. As a result, the design appears more mature without the Omoda completely straying from its original styling.
The more interesting changes are in the dimensions. The SUV gets longer from 4.42 meters to 4.55 meters, an increase of over 13 centimeters. However, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2.63 meters. This extra length does not necessarily mean more legroom, but the trunk space benefits. It increases from 370 liters to 442 liters, a rise of 72 liters. This is a welcome improvement, especially for families.
A completely different dashboard
Inside, the differences are even greater. The current model features two 12.3-inch screens placed side by side. In the updated version, this layout is replaced by an 8.9-inch digital instrument panel and a central infotainment screen that is a whopping 15.6 inches large.
The dashboard has also been completely reorganized. The new center console provides more storage space, while altered materials and ambient lighting are intended to give the interior a more modern look. Omoda follows the trend seen in many Chinese electric cars: a large central screen that takes on more functions. Whether this also means an improvement in usability will have to be determined through practical testing. After all, a nice touchscreen is not necessarily more convenient than a few well-placed physical buttons. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain available, while the smartphone app has been expanded. With it, drivers can control the climate system, check vehicle data, and locate their car, among other things.

The new Omoda 5 offers even more luxury
Omoda is known for its extensive standard equipment, and it changes little in that regard. In fact, the updated version adds several comfort features. For example, the heated and ventilated front seats now also come with a massage function, which is quite remarkable for this price range.
Other features are less new than the press release suggests. The current Omoda 5 already comes equipped with a heat pump, seat heating, seat ventilation, and wireless smartphone connectivity. The 540-degree camera, which allows the driver to see around and virtually beneath the car, is also not a new innovation. The same applies to the nineteen driving assistance functions, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring. While the equipment remains impressive, the biggest improvements lie in the updated cockpit and the additional massage function.
430 kilometers of range, reliable charging performance
Technically, there are fewer changes than one might expect. The new Omoda 5 features an electric motor with 155 kW (211 hp) of power, 288 Nm of torque, and front-wheel drive. The 61 kWh LFP battery pack also remains unchanged. The official WLTP range is once again 430 kilometers. No major changes have been announced either in terms of charging infrastructure. Like the current model, the new Omoda 5 supports a maximum DC fast charging capacity of 130 kW. According to the manufacturer, it takes 28 minutes to charge the battery pack from 30% to 80%. A 11 kW onboard charger remains standard for home charging or charging at public stations. Thus, the main improvements lie not in the electric drive system but rather in the larger body size, more spacious trunk, and completely renewed interior.

Safety and warranty remain key advantages
The existing Omoda 5 received five stars in Euro NCAP’s crash tests. That rating was initially given in 2022 and, after additional checks in 2024, was also applied to the electric version. It remains to be seen whether all changes to the updated model will fall under the same rating.
In addition, Omoda continues to offer extensive warranty terms. The brand provides a seven-year or 150,000-kilometer factory warranty, which is a significant advantage for drivers with little experience with Chinese car brands.
New Omoda 5 arrives in the Netherlands by the end of 2026
The updated electric SUV is expected to arrive at Dutch dealerships by the end of 2026. Omoda plans to have 28 sales locations for it. The network is growing rapidly: earlier this year, we reported on the opening of five new showrooms across the Netherlands.
The estimated starting price is around €35,000. This is an interesting figure, as the current Omoda 5 EV is listed at €31,990 in the 2026 Dutch price list, already including delivery costs. The updated version seems to be more expensive, although the final price and trim levels have not yet been announced.

More features, but potentially higher cost
The updated Omoda 5 offers more space, a more modern interior, and several additional comfort features. The larger trunk space is a practical improvement, while the new dashboard gives the car a completely different look. However, almost everything underneath remains the same. The engine power, range, and charging performance stay unchanged. Moreover, many of the luxury features were already available on the current model.
We have already driven the current Omoda 5, which is covered in detail in our video review. The updated version seems more attractive in some aspects, but this may come at a higher price. Whether the extra space, new interior, and improved equipment justify the price difference will have to be determined through further testing.
