NFOŚiGW will subsidize Polish energy suppliers. 147 charging points for trucks, 493 MW of capacity

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has signed contracts for nearly 1.3 billion zlotys in subsidies, which will enable the installation or modernization of 147 connection points to accommodate electric truck charging stations. The total capacity of all these connections is 493 MW, averaging 3.4 MW per location. The average cost to install or modernize a connection point is 8.6 million zlotys.

Closer to a nationwide network for electric truck and bus charging

As Krzysztof Bolesta, deputy minister for climate and the environment, stated, we spend 100 billion zlotys each year on fossil fuels for transportation, primarily crude oil. Meanwhile, NFOŚiGW will “only” allocate 6 billion zlotys to subsidize heavy transport in Poland: 2 billion zlotys for power grids, 2 billion for chargers, and 2 billion for heavy vehicles. This will be a first step toward assisting Polish companies that handle about 20 percent of all European heavy transport.

The funds will go to the following entities: Enea Operator will spend over 200 million zlotys to establish connection points in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lubusz, West Pomeranian, and Greater Poland voivodeships, resulting in 28 locations with a total capacity of 97 MW. Energa Operator will allocate nearly 340 million zlotys to provide capacity for ultra-fast chargers at 51 locations across eight voivodeships, totaling 151 MW. PGE Dystrybucja will serve the Łódź voivodeship, where 15 connection points with a combined capacity of 66 MW will be established, funded by 340 million zlotys.

The last operator is Tauron Dystrybucja, which will handle its own voivodeships with highways A4 and A1, namely Lower Silesian, Opole, Silesian, Lesser Poland, and Subcarpathian. Power will be available at 53 connection points, totaling 177 MW of capacity. The total subsidy amount is 383 million zlotys. The modernization or installation of new electrical infrastructure will result in a total of 843 chargers for heavy transport across Poland, located at 170 sites.
