NEW Energie opens truck charging station on A61 between Bonn and Koblenz

NEW Energie, a supplier based in Mönchengladbach, has opened its first public truck charging station in Niederzissen, in the Ahrweiler district. It is located right near an exit on the A61 highway between Bonn and Koblenz.

Admittedly, NEW Energie had not been on our radar when it came to the still relatively rare truck charging stations in Germany. But now, this company from Mönchengladbach, which has been operating public charging stations for electric vehicles in the region for some time, is also making its first move into powering electric trucks. In doing so, NEW Energie considers this a significant milestone in developing charging infrastructure for heavy transport and is simultaneously opening up a new business area for itself.
The truck charging park in Niederzissen is located on the premises of TD Truck’s truck washing facility, and existing facilities for sanitation and dining are available for use by electric truck drivers. Although the charging height is not very high at present and there are only four charging points with capacities of up to 400 kW or 200 kW when fully occupied, the site is designed as a passage solution specifically for electric trucks with trailers. As a result, the charging park is also suitable for electric vehicles with trailers, such as those equipped with campers, according to the company.
"With the charging hub in Niederzissen, we are creating a publicly accessible service for companies that want to reliably charge their vehicles without having to invest in their own charging infrastructure," says Dr. Niklas Rotering, head of customer solutions at the NEW-Group. "Especially in areas where space and grid capacity are limited, public charging services will play an important role in the future."
The truck charging park also plans to offer reservable time slots
New Energy aims to attract freight companies with various advantages: not only is full use possible without any capital investment, but it also offers stable kWh prices throughout the contract period and volume-based pricing for minimum order quantities. On its website, the company promises a kWh price of 0.39 euros for freight companies. Additionally, reservable charging slots are provided to ensure the charging station is available when needed for a specific electric truck.
At the same time, this single truck charging station is not intended to be the only one. Instead, the project is meant to serve as a model for further initiatives: “The electrification of heavy transport will continue to gain momentum. With Niederzissen, we have laid an important foundation for this. We are already evaluating other locations and discussing similar projects, especially in our service area,” explains Dr. Niklas Rotering.
NEW Energie has been active in developing and operating public charging infrastructure for years. As of September 1, 2026, the Federal Network Agency’s charging station registry lists 954 charging points operated by NEW Energie, including 808 AC standard charging points and 146 DC fast charging points. The focus is on the Niederrhein service area, particularly in Mönchengladbach and Viersen.
