The new entry-level model of the AMG GT 4-door coupe starts at 115,430 euros.

Mercedes-AMG expands the lineup of its recently introduced all-electric four-door GT Coupé by adding the new GT 53 4-door Coupé, positioning it at a lower price point. The most notable feature besides the lower cost is that instead of three axial-flux motors, this sports car is powered by two synchronous motors.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe has long captured attention — specifically since last November when a heavily camouflaged prototype was unveiled on the sidelines of the Formula 1 race in Las Vegas, and actor Brad Pitt was announced as the model’s brand ambassador. In March, Mercedes-AMG then showed off the interior of the GT 4-door coupe, surprising the industry by not mentioning at any point that it was a fully electric vehicle.

The world premiere in May brought clarity: there, AMG unveiled a high-performance vehicle with a system power output of up to 860 kW, powered by three axial-flux motors from Yasa, a British electric motor specialist acquired in 2021. This was an absolute innovation, as it marked the first Mercedes production model to feature such high-performance motors. Until now, they had primarily been used as “boosters” in hybrid models from Ferrari and Lamborghini.

But Mercedes-AMG is now giving up exactly this unique feature in a new version of its four-door GT: the new Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé comes equipped with two synchronous motors that deliver a system power output of 400 kW. The electric main drive unit with permanent magnet synchronous motor (PSM) is located at the rear axle, while a second electric motor at the front axle (also PSM) serves as a “Boost” drive. Depending on driving conditions and mode selection, this front-wheel drive can be activated via a Disconnect Unit (DCU), for example when higher power is required or traction is needed, according to Mercedes-AMG. Under light loads, the electric motor is quickly disconnected for greater efficiency and comes to a stop.

Compared to the already available 63er flagship model, the 53er suffers from lower system performance and several other performance drawbacks due to its alternative engine setup – yet it still boasts figures that no mass-market model can match. For instance, its torque is 800 Nm instead of 2,000 Nm in the 63er. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in a 1-foot rollout takes 3.5 seconds rather than 2.1 seconds. The standard 0 to 100 km/h acceleration from a standstill requires 3.9 seconds, compared to 2.4 seconds in the GT 63 4-door coupe.

There are no changes regarding the battery and charging capacity: the GT 53 4-door coupe has a 106 kWh battery just like the 63 model. The exceptionally high charging rate of 600 kW also remains unchanged, meaning the DC charge from 10% to 80% now takes only 11 minutes. However, this requires a 600 kW ultra-fast charging station, which are still rare at present. Given the lower system power, the WLTP range is expected to be significantly higher, exceeding 800 km.

The sale of the GT 53 4-door coupe in Germany begins on August 13, 2026, at prices starting from 115,430 euros. For comparison, the top-tier GT 63 is priced at 196,350 euros. The GT 55, positioned in between, is available starting at 154,700 euros. It remains unclear whether Mercedes-AMG will also introduce an even cheaper GT 43. This model was last available in the internal combustion engine version of the AMG GT 4-door coupe.
