Navigation for electric trucks: eTrucker app gets additional features

The “electric trucker” Tobias Wagner developed the eTrucker app in 2025 with his team – a charging navigation app for electric trucks. Now, the app’s creators are providing a major update. Starting now, it allows for better planning of breaks among other features, and the app now offers charging station recommendations.

The “electric trucker” Tobias Wagner has traveled over 200,000 kilometers across Europe in the past two years using several electric truck models – and seen a corresponding number of charging stations with his own eyes. During this time, he noticed a significant information gap: those who want to charge their trucks often don’t know where to go. Together with his team, he launched the eTrucker app last year – an app that identifies charging points suitable for trucks. The community helps with updates and expansions. We already examined how well this new tool navigates electric trucks to appropriate chargers a year ago.

According to the initiators, the app has now received an additional major update beyond its basic functions. Here’s an overview of the new features:

Planning breaks: Starting now, in the overall route planning, breaks ranging from 45 minutes to 9 hours can be scheduled with just one click. The starting point can be chosen freely, and intermediate stops can be sorted using drag-and-drop.

Connection to the freight forwarder via pairing code: No username or password is required here. Simply enter the code in the eTrucker-Manager, and the corresponding device will immediately display the freight forwarder’s price categories and charging cards.

Charging card recommendation per location: Those who have ever been at a charger with the wrong charging card know the problem. The app now provides a clear recommendation in such cases. If multiple charging cards are saved, the app also shows which card can be used as an alternative—along with its respective price category.

Price categories for all charging stations: Drivers can see at a glance how much it will cost anywhere. Those who wish can directly hide expensive charging parks and only see the cheaper locations.

Community feedback mode updated: Feedback on charging parks can now be set directly from the app. The developers call this “the foundation for the best quality truck charging data in Europe.”

Detaching times can now also be taken into account during planning: At charging points where it is necessary or advisable to detach the trailer, the app automatically adds a buffer (indicated by a “+8” note on the map pin or “8 extra minutes for detaching”) to the total driving time.

The app developers clarify that they use TomTom-Truck-Routen on Google Maps for route planning. This is “expensive for us, but the best solution that works on the roads,” emphasizes Michael Clarke, one of the app’s managers. Importantly in this context: the eTrucker app is intended to remain completely free. “Because we want to show that charging infrastructure is already more than sufficient today,” says Clarke, who also adds, “Transport companies that want to go a step further and charge optimally are welcome to contact us for eTrucker Manager — we’ll share more details in a few weeks.” This suggests that the developers may soon launch a paid additional service.

Regarding the status of truck charging networks in Germany, electrive recently published a comprehensive article during the Truck Charging Theme Week. Data from the eTrucker app as of July 1, 2026, shows nearly 700 truck-compatible locations across Germany. Here are the details:

154 truck charging locations in Germany without the need to disconnect (for through traffic): This number includes both locations dedicated solely to trucks and car charging stations with sufficient space. The eTrucker app identifies Aral Pulse Truck (33), Aral Pulse (17), Milence (10), Shell Recharge (10), and E.ON Drive (7) as the top 5 operators. Seven of these 154 locations are equipped with at least one MCS plug. Specifically, they are: HoLa/Lipperland Süd, Aral in Buchholz, Hannover, Schnaittach, and Rastow, as well as Energie Südbayern/Dettendoerfer near Langenbruck and ESG Solar near Kassel.

158 truck-compatible locations where disconnection is recommended, but there is enough space to charge without disconnecting when traffic is light. The top 5 operators here are Aral Pulse PKW (34), EnBW (21), Ionity (11), and Autostrom Plus (9).

387 truck-compatible locations where disconnection is always necessary, but there is a truck parking space nearby for parking the trailer. Operators EnBW (64), Ionity (52), Shell Recharge (50), and Aral Pulse PKW (49) stand out in this category.

Generally, the app covers not only Germany but also many European countries. In August 2025, the app developers expanded the coverage to include Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Belgium, and Romania.
