Most Popular Electric Cars in Europe [September 2026]: 1/ Tesla, 2/ Tesla, 3/ Skoda

Tesla delivers cars to Europe in waves, with peaks appearing at the end of each quarter, but even this knowledge wouldn’t allow for predicting the results for September 2026. The Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3 combined sold more units than all other electric cars in the TOP10 combined! The third-ranked Skoda Elroq had more than twice as few buyers as the second-ranked Tesla Model 3.

Electric Car Sales Ranking in September [Europe]

As mentioned, Tesla’s sales in Europe spike periodically, but the latest month was surprising even by recent standards. Let’s start with the TOP10 best-selling models across 28 markets in the Old Continent (per Jato Dynamics):

Tesla Model Y – 41,588 units,

Tesla Model 3 – 27,132 units,

Skoda Elroq – 12,178 units,

Renault 5 E-Tech – 9,126 units,

Skoda Enyaq – 8,286 units,

Renault Twingo – 7,839 units,

VW ID.4 – 7,729 units,

Volvo EX30 – 7,476 units,

BMW iX3 – 7,372 units,

Mercedes CLA Electric – 7,324 units.

In September, Tesla set an absolute record for vehicle deliveries (!) in countries such as Portugal, Belgium, Spain, and Austria. In some of these nations, it was the best result in a long time (France: 34 months, Switzerland: 51 months, Germany: 45 months; source). Additionally, the very strong performance from the last weeks of September (blue line below, right side of the chart) carried over partially to the first week of the following quarter (purple line below, left side of the chart (c) Roland Pircher/X):

The good performance of the Skoda Elroq is encouraging — Volkswagen Group can only regret not allowing the Czech brand to bring a C-SUV crossover to market for so long, offering buyers only the extended version (Enyaq). The Renault 5 E-Tech and Renault Twingo also show strong results, although both are significantly boosted by social leasing programs in France. Deliveries of the VW ID.4 are helping to clear warehouses ahead of the launch of the Volkswagen ID. Tiguana, which was available at excellent prices at the beginning of the year.
