Last June, GAC announced its entry into Spain with two initial models: the GAC Aion V and GAC Aion UT. These electric SUVs will soon be joined by more members of the Chinese brand’s lineup. In China, the company has just officially unveiled the Yue 7, a plug-in hybrid SUV designed to directly compete with the Fang Cheng Bao Ti 7, one of the benchmark models in this class featuring a robust body and off-road appearance.
The vehicle, which will later enter international markets under the name GAC XT80, reflects the growing interest among Chinese manufacturers in this type of robust, boxy vehicles similar to a Land Rover Defender. It is a segment where BYD has previously held an advantage with the Ti 7, and now GAC aims to gain a foothold there with a product offering very similar specifications at a slightly more competitive price.
Rugged body design and plug-in hybrid system

The Yue 7 can be described as a large-sized SUV with a monocoque structure, featuring a boxy design that includes wide wheelbases, rectangular headlights, a rear hatch that folds sideways, and conventional door handles. Its dimensions are 5,045 mm in length, 2,004 mm in width, and 1,933 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. The standard ground clearance is 230 mm, though this figure can increase to 310 mm thanks to the air suspension, a significant difference designed to enhance its off-road capabilities when needed.
Mechanically, the Yue 7 features a plug-in hybrid system with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that produces 125 kW (170 hp). The base model comes with front-wheel drive and an electric motor delivering 205 kW (279 hp), achieving 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The all-wheel-drive version adds an additional electric motor at the rear axle with a maximum power of 220 kW (299 hp), reducing acceleration time to 4.2 seconds. The Yue 7 is available with two battery capacities: 28.3 kWh and 50 kWh, offering an electric range of 161 to 261 kilometers according to the CLTC cycle, or 132 to 214 kilometers under the European WLTP cycle.
An interior with a trunk space of up to 1,860 liters

The Yue 7’s cabin can accommodate five passengers, featuring a short and sturdy dashboard that includes a 1.1-meter panoramic screen beneath the windshield, similar to the Panoramic View in the BMW iX3, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, and a cluster of three analog clocks behind the steering wheel. The gear shifter is located on the steering column, while the central console houses groups of physical buttons, a wireless phone charger, a hidden compartment, and two cup holders. The second-row seats can be reclined up to 127 degrees, and the trunk offers 745 liters of space, which can be expanded to 1,860 liters by folding down the rear seats.
The Yue 7 features the ADiGO 3.0 driver assistance system, powered by a total of 27 sensors. The higher-end version includes a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor with 192 resolution lines, compatible with the Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) function, enabling autonomous driving from one lane to another in both urban areas and highways. However, it remains a level 2 assistance system, so the driver must stay alert at all times.
Four trims and a price point aimed at competing with BYD
The Yue 7 is available in China in four trim levels, with a list price before discounts ranging from 169,800 to 215,800 yuan, or about 22,074 to 28,054 euros. Thanks to a limited-time discount, this range can drop to 161,800–207,800 yuan, equivalent to 21,034–27,014 euros. For comparison, the BYD Ti 7 is sold in China for between 179,800 and 239,800 yuan, or roughly 23,374 to 31,174 euros, putting the Yue 7 at a slightly more competitive price point against its main rival.
