MVV Energie consolidates 6,600 charging points on mounting platforms

MVV Energie, the energy provider, aggregates around 6,600 public and commercial charging points in Germany on Monta’s platform, replacing fragmented older systems. The provider’s eMotion app now also relies on Monta.

Commercial and B2B charging points make up the vast majority of the migrated sites, at nearly 6,100. There are slightly over 500 publicly accessible charging points, meaning less than one in ten of all charging points are public.
According to Monta, the platform covers charging point management, customer management, pricing, payment processing, invoicing, and reporting. MVV Energie aims to achieve a unified operational environment for expanding into public charging, fleet charging, workplace charging, and home charging sectors.
Monta cites its payment and wallet architecture as a key selection criterion. It allows assigning both employee and consumer rates to the same customer without creating duplicate customer profiles or performing manual adjustments. The platform is also designed for home charging of employees, enabling the registration of private charge stations and solar power systems along with reimbursement of charging costs.
"The market is evolving from individual charging projects to scaled-up comprehensive charging solutions — making the underlying software architecture a strategic decision," says Max Scherer, Chief Operating Officer at Monta. Vinzent Grimmel, Head of Smart Cities at MVV, emphasizes flexibility above all: "Monta provides us with a single platform for public charging, fleets, workplace charging, and employee charging — while also offering the flexibility we need for different customer and pricing models."
The same platform now serves as the foundation for the eMotion app, which the energy provider operates as a branded white-label solution for fleet, workplace, and home charging. It offers features such as AI-powered chat support, push notifications, secure storage of vehicle data, as well as autocharge and plug & charge. Users can also register private wallboxes and PV systems through it.
Growth with No Extra Effort
Besides the technical aspects, Monta sees mainly commercial benefits: Since a single platform replaces multiple isolated systems, further expansion of charging infrastructure should no longer come with proportionally increasing operational costs. “Reliable and flexible software is crucial for operating our charging network today and for our planned growth,” adds Grimmel. MVV Energie, however, does not specify any concrete expansion goals.
The Danish company Monta currently manages over 330,000 charging points and is directly present in twelve European markets. The platform is said to be compatible with more than 900 charging station models from 274 manufacturers, as well as 94 vehicle brands. Monta expects the challenge for regional energy providers and CPOs to grow in importance as they expand their charging services to public, commercial, and private areas.
