Innovative French all-wheel-drive electric motorcycle Furion Taran
Based in Le Mans, Furion aims to have innovative motorcycles compete on international circuits. Starting with projects for hybrid machines, this French company has now clearly focused solely on electric motorcycles. The Taran, featuring all-wheel drive, would be its first model released in a limited series, which could lead to partnerships with manufacturers and suppliers.
Gyroscopic counter-rotation
Furion does not seek to mass-produce electric motorcycles itself but rather to get its innovative technological components widely adopted. Four of these components are used in the revolutionary axial-flow “Eversor” engine that enables all-wheel drive.
The first step is to integrate the new module into the front wheel: “It’s this placement choice, rather than an improvement in efficiency, that unlocks everything else.” The second step is to make the engine rotate in the opposite direction of the wheel so that the rider can control and even utilize the gyroscopic effect. Feeling lighter, the motorcycle handles curves better thanks to an 11% increase in agility.
During braking, forward lean becomes a much more powerful source of energy to recharge the battery than traditional regeneration through the rear wheel. This increases energy recovery from 7% to 77%, while also stabilizing the vehicle’s orientation. The final component is a software that distributes power between the two wheels.
200 km of real-world range
Already tested in the M2 prototype developed based on a Yamaha MT-07, the Eversor system “is no longer just a supplement to an internal combustion engine: it becomes the core architecture.” Taran is “the diminutive of Taranis, the Celtic god of thunder,” explains Furion in his press release from September 2026.
Designed by Takumi Yamamoto, who created the lines for the GT by Citroën, and under the oversight and artistic direction of Pigment agency, the Taran with AWD transmission will be the first electric motorcycle to feature the Eversor engine.
"The design takes into account the cooling requirements of the power modules and battery while maintaining a distinct and functional visual identity," comments Furion.
With a weight of 230 kg including a battery with an available energy capacity of 20 kWh, it is said to deliver 240 kW (326 hp) of power distributed to both wheels. Furion claims that in real-world use, its range would be around 200 km, resulting in a consumption of 10 kWh per 100 km.
Under 800 V?
The company emphasizes that its suite of innovations enables a 20 to 30% increase in battery life with the same battery. It also aims to take advantage of a robust electrical architecture, initially at 400 V but potentially rising to 800 V.
This would allow “reducing cable cross-sections, limiting losses due to Joule heating, and handling high charge and discharge currents while minimizing cell overheating.”
