It’s only 4.05 meters long, but it has a 441-liter trunk and a range of up to 449 km: this is Volkswagen’s new electric car.

Volkswagen has chosen to use one of its best-known names to usher in a new era for its electric lineup. More than five decades after the Polo was introduced, the new ID. Polo revives that concept of a compact, everyday-friendly car, but adapts it to a fully electric architecture and a much more technologically advanced approach.
The key lies in making the most of every available centimeter. The ID. Polo is only 4.05 meters long, 1.82 meters wide, and 1.53 meters tall, yet it offers five seats and more interior space than the conventional Polo. Its new MEB+ electric platform and front-wheel drive setup allow for more space and improved comfort without significantly increasing the exterior dimensions.

As for its trunk space, Volkswagen claims a capacity of 441 liters, which is 25% more than the standard Polo, and up to 1,240 liters when the rear seats are folded down. This is an unusual figure for a car just over four meters long and one of the key factors that clearly distinguish this new electric vehicle from traditional SUVs.
Up to 449 km range and three power levels
The ID. Polo lineup features three power levels: 85 kW, 99 kW, and 155 kW, corresponding to 116, 135, and 211 horsepower respectively. These versions are paired with batteries of 37 and 52 kWh net capacity, depending on the trim level and configuration chosen.
The highest-capacity version achieves an approved range of up to 449 kilometers. With this figure, Volkswagen aims to ensure the ID. Polo is not limited to urban use and can handle longer trips without turning every journey into a series of stops to recharge.

Rapid charging is standard on all trims and allows the battery to go from about 10% to 80% in roughly 23 minutes. This energy recovery capability is particularly important for a car of this size, as it expands its range and reinforces the idea that it is not just a second vehicle for city use.
In addition to all this, it features a towing capacity of up to 1,200 kg—a figure that is uncommon in this segment and further expands its potential uses. Volkswagen aims for the new model to retain the Polo’s historically excellent driving ease, but with performance tailored to its new electric architecture.
More technology without sacrificing physical buttons
The interior adopts a clearly more digital approach, but Volkswagen has avoided moving all functions to a touchscreen. The ID. Polo comes equipped with a 10-inch Digital Cockpit and a 13-inch central display, along with physical buttons for certain frequently used functions.

Depending on the finish, it can also include materials with recycled content, such as textile surfaces made from 100% recycled PET, along with ambient lighting via the ID. Light system. The goal is to combine a more modern appearance with a simple and recognizable user experience for those coming from conventional Volkswagen models.
The assistance technologies have also made significant progress. Among the available systems is Connected Travel Assist, which can automatically recognize traffic lights, as well as advanced parking assistants that were previously more common in higher-end segments.
Volkswagen’s first electric car manufactured in Spain
The ID. Polo holds special significance for the brand’s industrial strategy as it becomes Volkswagen’s first electric car manufactured in Spain. This move strengthens our country’s role in the company’s electrification efforts and ties one of its historic models to fully electric local production.

In Spain, it will be available in three trims: Match, Life, and Style. The starting price is currently 17,900 euros for the ID. Polo Match with 116 horsepower and a 37 kWh battery, though this figure is subject to current marketing campaigns, financing terms, and promotional programs.
Beyond price, the ID. Polo’s proposition centers on maintaining the qualities that have defined the model for over 50 years: compact size, practicality, ease of use, and a clear focus on everyday driving. The difference is that this concept is now built around all-electric propulsion.
That is precisely the message Volkswagen aims to convey with this new generation. The ID. Polo isn’t meant to be just a small electric car; it seeks to reinterpret the role the Polo has traditionally played in the lineup: a manageable and practical vehicle, but now with 441 liters of trunk space, up to 449 kilometers of range, and technologies that were previously reserved for much larger models.
