MG responds to BYD by slashing the price of its best hybrid SUV: over 1,000 km of range for just 24,540 €

The post-holiday period is always tough, even for car and SUV sales. MG is aware of this, and to boost sales of its best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV, the HS PHEV with a range of over 1,000 km, it has just lowered its price. This is its response to BYD.

It reduces the official price by a full 21%, applying additional discounts due to rising fuel costs, resulting in an almost unbelievable figure: just 24,540 euros.

24,540 €: MG responds to BYD and Toyota

Throughout 2025, MG competed fiercely with the BYD Seal U DM-i — read our review — to have its plug-in hybrid SUV become the best-selling plug-in hybrid car in Spain. But now, it is BYD and Toyota that top that ranking with the BYD Atto 2 DM-i — we’ve tested it — and the Toyota RAV4 PHEV — we’ve also driven it — as the best-selling SUVs.

However, MG has stepped up its game by leveraging its biggest advantage: an incredible price. Thus, this SUV with a length of 4.66 meters and a trunk space of 441 liters now costs only 24,540 euros, including all the brand’s discounts, such as those for financing.

Another highly interesting aspect of this SUV, a direct competitor to the BYD Seal U DM-i, is its plug-in hybrid engine. It consists of a 1.5 T gasoline engine that produces 143 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, along with an electric motor that delivers 183 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque. Additionally, there is a second electric motor that functions as a generator, providing 150 horsepower. Together, they generate a total power of 272 horsepower, enabling this SUV to reach speeds of 200 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

This plug-in hybrid system is paired with a battery having a capacity of 21.4 kWh, allowing this MG to travel 100 kilometers in pure electric mode, resulting in a total range of over 1,000 kilometers.

How does MG offer that price of 24,540 euros?

MG is lowering the price of this plug-in hybrid SUV until September 30, specifically for its entry-level version with the Confort trim level—there is also a higher Luxury version. This trim, which includes features such as Full LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a dual 12.3-inch display, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as heated front seats and steering wheel; is now priced at 24,540 euros.

But how does MG manage to achieve such an almost unbelievable price? Initially, 5,626 euros are deducted from the official price of this SUV as an “VAT compensation,” another 2,067 euros as an “INPC compensation,” and 1,732 euros more as a “fuel price increase compensation.” On top of that, 2,250 euros come from the Auto+ program subsidies and 1,125 euros from MG’s “Made for Europe” program.

It should be noted, however, that this price and these discounts are conditional on financing this plug-in hybrid SUV with a range of over 1,000 km through Santander Consumer Finance.
