The Polish MG branch attracts buyers with favorable long-term rental terms for the MG S9 PHEV — actually MGS9 PHEV — as well as acceptable rates for the MG S6 EV — actually MGS6 EV. With a down payment of just 10 percent of the listed price, monthly payments can be as low as 1,599 and 1,999 zloty net each. This offer is intended only for businesses and binds us to Volvo for 4 years, with an annual mileage limit of only 10,000 kilometers. Something for something.

MG S9 PHEV for large families from 1,967 zloty/month

The MG S9 PHEV is an E-segment crossover with a length of 4.98 meters and a wheelbase of 2.92 meters. For some reason, the manufacturer presents it as a D-SUV – it’s possible they intend to force reviewers to compare it with the VW Tayron (4.79 meters long, 2.79 meters wheelbase). As for purchase costs, the two vehicles are similar: the MG S9 PHEV starts at 172,900 złoty for the Excite version or 181,900 złoty for the highly equipped Exclusive version. The cheapest gasoline-powered VW Tayron costs from 166,290 złoty, while the plug-in hybrid is available starting at 199,990 złoty (source).

Reviews of the MG S9 PHEV state that it has a much better finish and equipment compared to its European competitors. The third row of seats isn’t purely decorative, though it’s more suitable for people under 1.7 meters tall. It drives like a van (soft suspension, performance), and it has issues with software quality. The advantage is its 24.7 (~23) kWh battery, which allows up to 100 WLTP kilometers in pure electric mode. That’s about 85 kilometers, though actually a bit less since the engine will start up to charge the battery.

Among the drawbacks is also the long waiting time for parts; in cases of unusual damage, cars can wait months to be repaired. Looking at the photo gallery, where even photos of the interior were skipped (source), we can believe this. Nevertheless, the monthly payment might be attractive—the Excite version costs 1,599 złoty net per month. So, with soaring fuel prices, anyone with access to an electrical outlet can drive dozens of kilometers per day on electricity. The website is HERE.

From our perspective, the MG S6 EV is more interesting, as it’s available for a similar 4-year lease with a monthly installment of 1,999 złoty net, or 2,458.77 złoty per month. “More interesting,” that is, until we take a closer look at the specifications. The LFP battery has a capacity of 77 (~75) kWh, promises up to 530 WLTP miles of range, and can charge from 10% to 80% in just 38 (!) minutes. The maximum range is available with single-wheel drive, and its power of only 180 kW/245 HP allows for a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.4 seconds.

To be fair, classifying it in the D-SUV segment this time is reasonable—the vehicle has a length of 4.71 meters with a wheelbase of 2.84 meters. The manufacturer promotes the Exclusive AWD version with all-wheel drive and 266 kW/362 HP, but it should be noted that higher power reduces the range to 484 WLTP units. It is by no means a substitute for the Tesla Model Y. Until MG decides to switch to a solid-state electrolyte, its electric vehicles might be a moderate choice. Unfortunately, the performance-to-price ratio is better in their gasoline-powered models, namely plug-in hybrids.
