Oliver Rittierodt has been in charge of MG Motor Deutschland’s sales since June 2025 as Director Sales. The once-British manufacturer is now part of the Chinese SAIC group and is one of the fastest-growing import brands in the German market. In an interview with Elektroauto-News.Net, the manager set a goal for this year to sell more than 30,000 vehicles in Germany.

MG views the German electric vehicle market in 2025 positively despite challenging conditions. One in five newly registered cars was a pure electric vehicle, even without any purchase incentives, while plug-in hybrids accounted for over ten percent of new registrations. According to the company, the announcement of new government incentives for electric vehicles in Germany influenced the registration numbers of its electric cars toward the end of the year. Nevertheless, MG sees this market trend as a clear sign of electrification.

At the same time, MG has expanded its range from internal combustion engines to hybrids and electric vehicles. Four out of five customers chose an electrified model in the form of a pure electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid, or full hybrid. Nearly 80 percent opted for a vehicle with at least one electric drive component. In 2024, this figure was just under 75 percent. Electric vehicles accounted for around 34 percent of MG’s new vehicle registrations in 2025 and about 21 percent in the first half of 2026.

Cyberster as a brand ambassador, MG4 EV Urban as a volume model

In the electric portfolio, the MG Cyberster serves as a brand ambassador according to Rittierodt, aiming to bridge MG’s roadster heritage with electric mobility. The compact MG4 EV Urban is designed as a key volume model, intended to make electric vehicles accessible at an attractive price point for broader consumer groups. Launched in 2025, the MGS5 EV positions itself as an electric model in the compact SUV segment. The sedan MG IM5 and the SUV MG IM6 — both just under five meters long — are meant to demonstrate the technical capabilities offered by the brand, combining what the company states as “Intelligent Mobility” with comfort and range.

In 2026, MG already introduced the revised MG4 EV, the new MGS6 EV, the MG4 EV Urban, and the seven-seater MGS9 PHEV. Additionally, the brand showcased two concept cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that could potentially go into production. When it comes to value for money, Rittierodt emphasizes quality, durability, and reliability, stating, “MG models are affordable but not cheap.”

The German partner network currently includes around 185 companies, and it is set to grow by another 30 partners by mid-year, according to the sales manager for Germany. MG does not intend to enter regions that have not yet been covered and requires new companies to meet the same standards in service and quality as existing partners. The manager describes these dealers as the first point of contact for customers, so value, quality, and trust must also be prioritized within the dealer network.

For the current year, MG plans to sell more than 30,000 vehicles in Germany. In the first half of the year, 16,152 vehicles were sold, with nearly 90 percent of them featuring at least one electric component in their powertrain during that period. Rittierodt cites a market share of just over one percent for this timeframe. According to the company, more than 100,000 vehicles of this brand have been registered in Germany since 2021.
