MG unveiled and immediately priced the new MG 07 at the Chengdu auto show. The car starts at 105,900 yuan, or about $15,600, with the top electric version offering 845 km of CLTC range and 5C charging speed.

What matters to European readers is something different: MG is trying to move beyond its reputation as a brand focused on budget compacts and convertibles by entering one of the most competitive segments in the Chinese market.

MG 07: Seven trims, BEV and PHEV options, price lower than pre-sale

The MG 07 made its official debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show in 7 trims. The regular price range is from 108,900 to 159,900 yuan, but the brand offered promotional prices starting at 105,900 to 156,900 yuan. There’s also a 3,000 yuan bonus for trading in an old vehicle.

This is more important than it seems. During pre-sales, the price range was cited as 125,900–165,900 yuan, so the final price is noticeably lower. In short: MG didn’t go for a premium approach but instead focused on aggressive pricing.

The lineup includes both electric and plug-in hybrid versions:

MG states that deliveries of the EV 650 version will begin at the end of August, while the 845 variants will arrive in October.

Liftback body style and plenty of practicality for a sedan-coupe

The MG 07 is 4,886 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, 1,478–1,485 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. It falls into the mid-range category officially, but in terms of size, it aims higher than the MG4 and clearly strives to appear more impressive.

Stylistically, it features a fastback with a liftback door design, four frameless doors, and an electrically adjustable spoiler with 5 positions. There’s also a 168-liter frunk in the front, while the trunk offers 697 liters of space. For a car with this body style, that’s quite substantial.

There are also details typical of Chinese design preferences and photo marketing: recessed handles, two-tone wheels, yellow brake calipers, and a full rear light bar. It looks somewhat like a mix of several well-known designs, but without outright cheap imitation. And that already counts for something in this class.

Electric versions: 67 or 91 kWh, 400 V or 800 V

The most interesting option is obviously the BEV version. The MG 07 comes with two different technical platforms.

The top-tier EV 845 model is based on an 800 V architecture and uses a CATL 91 kWh battery. The manufacturer claims 845 km of CLTC range and 5C charging speed. On paper, this sounds very impressive, but it’s important to remember that CLTC is significantly more optimistic than WLTP, so such figures would be much lower in Europe.

The lower-end versions, 610 and 650, use 67 kWh batteries. This becomes interesting because not all of them are identical. According to data from the Chinese market, the 610 km version uses semi-solid batteries from Qingtao, while the other electric variants use LFP cells from CATL or battery packs from SAIC-affiliated supplier Qingtao Energy. The Chinese descriptions here aren’t perfectly consistent, but the main point is clear: MG is testing several battery chemistries and suppliers in a single model.

This might be more important than the catalog range itself. If the semi-solid battery truly makes it to the production version of the 610, then MG is doing more with this technology than just using it as a showcase in slides.

The engine driving the front axle delivers 176 kW or 235 kW depending on the version, with torque of 300 Nm and 350 Nm respectively. There’s no 0-100 time race here like with Xiaomi or Zeekr. MG focuses more on a balance of performance, price, and features.

Mg 07 Interior

A plug-in hybrid with 245 km of electric range is practically an EREV without that label.

The second pillar of the lineup is the PHEV. And it’s not the traditional European plug-in model with a battery for commuting to work, but rather a Chinese version with a really large package and a strong emphasis on electric driving.

The MG 07 PHEV features a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 82 kW of power and an electric motor with 152 kW of power. The manufacturer claims an electric range of 245 km according to CLTC standards, a total range of 1,745 km under CLTC conditions, and a fuel consumption of 2.91 liters per 100 km after the battery is depleted.

Of course, these figures need to be viewed with caution. The 245 km CLTC range won’t translate to 245 km in Polish driving conditions, just as the 1,745 km total range doesn’t mean physics disappears magically. But even after accounting for Chinese-style optimism, this plug-in hybrid becomes significantly more useful than most PHEVs sold in Europe today.

In short: it’s a car for a market that loves transitional forms of electrification but wants to rely mainly on electricity for driving.

LiDAR, Momenta, and a higher-class interior

The MG 07 is also the first model in the brand’s lineup to feature a LiDAR and the first to use a driving assistance system based on the Momenta R7 platform. The processing is handled by an X7 chip designed for large AI models as well.

One needs to keep a cool head here. A LiDAR in a car costing just under $24,000 looks great on paper, but the sensor alone does not yet enable autonomy. In China, such ADAS packages are rapidly becoming cheaper and part of an equipment competition.

Inside, the MG 07 also aims higher than previous models in the brand. It features a 15.6-inch 2.5K display, a cockpit based on the Qualcomm 8295P system, an Inspiration OS infotainment system, along with a 21-speaker 7.1.4 audio setup, a zero-gravity passenger seat, heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof with EC tinting, and an active mCDC suspension.

It sounds luxurious because it’s meant to sound luxurious. In China, it’s hard these days to attract customers to a sedan at such a price without that.

MG Enters a Market Where Competitors Won’t Compromise on Cost

The MG 07 doesn’t have an easy task ahead. It enters a segment already dominated by strong competitors, including the BYD Seal 07 DM-i and Lynk & Co 07 EM-P. This isn’t a niche or segment where you can sell a car just on its logo.

That’s why two things are particularly interesting. First, the price has been reduced compared to the pre-sale version. Second, the MG 07 combines in one model everything Chinese customers expect today: a large screen, LiDAR, long range, a plug-in version with a large battery, and a stylish liftback design.

The brand also faces its own image issues. In China, MG is currently associated mainly with the MG4 and Cyberster. The former is a sensible electric car, while the latter is a concept vehicle. The MG 07 is intended to be something in between—a more mass-market car with higher aspirations.

For Europe and Poland, this signals that SAIC does not want to remain solely a supplier of compact cars and crossovers. Will the MG 07 enter the EU? There is no confirmation yet, but the direction is clear. MG is expanding its offerings into segments that still have customers in Europe, especially if the price remains reasonable.

At the same time, it’s important to remember the other side of the coin. Versions with 845 km of CLTC range, 5C charging speed, and advanced ADAS sound great, but only European homologation, real-world fuel consumption, and actual charging curves will show what remains beyond the Chinese promotional materials.

The MG 07 appears to be a car designed for today’s China, but with specifications that could also interest Europe if SAIC gets the tariffs, production costs, and final price right. So, would you prefer to see the MG 07 as an 800 V BEV in Europe, or rather as a plug-in model with a large battery?
