The Mercedes EQA is being discontinued, replaced by the Mercedes GLA Electric: price starting at 205,100 PLN for ~60 (58) kWh, and 230,500 PLN for ~90 (85) kWh.

On Wednesday, July 29, the Mercedes GLA Electric made its official debut just outside the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. This vehicle is the successor to the Mercedes EQA; according to the current naming convention, it is simply called

EQ Tec

h Electric and features a powertrain from the Mercedes CLA EQ Tech. The car can be viewed until September 5 at Defilad Square. The price of the GLA 200 Electric version with an LFP battery having a capacity of ~60 (58) kWh starts at 205,100 zlotys for this expanded C-SUV model (4.565 meters in length, 2.79 meters wheelbase, 2.052 meters width including mirrors, 1.604 meters in height).

New Mercedes GLA Electric: Prices, specifications, and everything we know

Standard equipment options

The car is compared by the media to the Volvo EX40, but given its significantly larger size, the new Mercedes GLA Electric should rather be compared to the Audi Q4 e-tron (end of the C-SUV segment), the former Mercedes EQB (beginning of the D-SUV segment), or the Xpeng L03. The configuration tool for this German electric vehicle can be found HERE, and it is currently available in three powertrain options:

Mercedes GLA 200 Electric, ~60 (58) kWh, 165 kW/224 HP, rear-wheel drive – starting at 205,100 złotys,

Mercedes GLA 250+ Electric, ~90 (85) kWh, 200 kW/272 HP, rear-wheel drive – starting at 230,500 złotys,

Mercedes GLA 350 4Matic Electric, ~90 (85) kWh, 260 kW/354 HP, all-wheel drive – starting at 244,500 złotys.

As is typical in Mercedes’ lineup, the version with a “+” suffix features single-wheel drive and the highest range of 654 WLTP units. For comparison, the Mercedes CLA EQ Tech—perhaps we should start calling it Mercedes CLA Electric since this naming convention has become standard—offers up to 791 WLTP units of range with the same powertrain (CLA vs. GLA results in a 17.3% decrease in range). Acceleration figures suggest the powertrain wasn’t significantly modified (CLA: 6.7 seconds to 100 km/h, GLA 250+ Electric: 7.3 seconds), so could it be that the higher body design and wheels are responsible for such a large range difference compared to the sedan?

The Mercedes GLA Electric has a trunk capacity of 410 liters according to VDA standards, with an additional 107 liters in front under the hood — though this measurement uses fluid, so it exaggerates the actual space (we can’t pour suitcases into the trunk; they need to fit inside). Perhaps the biggest advantage of this model is its 800 V architecture, which allows it to reach speeds using chargers of up to 320 kW and charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. But be careful! Using 400 V chargers, such as Tesla’s Superchargers, requires purchasing an additional converter, and it might not be cost-effective for us!

Press photos of the Mercedes GLA Electric show a highly equipped version with an attractive red paint finish. The cost of such a variant is around 300,000 złoty (c) Mercedes

Standard equipment options

In the GLA 250+ Electric version, the standard equipment includes a black paint finish and black interior trim, LED headlights, a rearview camera, MBUX navigation with 7 years of map updates if we subscribe to the Digital Extras package, a 14-inch central display, 2 USB ports in the cabin, and a glass roof. With the Advanced package plus Digital Extras (+5,620 zł), we get heated front seats, 2 additional USB ports for rear passengers, and an electrically opening trunk lid.

We’ll have to pay an extra 784 zł for the 18-inch aerodynamic wheels.

The Multibeam LED matrix adaptive headlights require the Advanced Plus package with Digital Extras, which includes “illuminated framing for the iconic radiator grille,” and it removes the aerodynamic wheels previously included — someone here really put a lot of thought into this... The price increases by 14,428 zł.

The Iconic Radiator Grille

We now only need to add:

front seat massage for 261 zlotys (for those going on long trips),

electric seat adjustment with memory function for 3,293 zlotys,

two-zone climate control for 2,666 zlotys,

steering wheel heating in the Winter Package for 1,359 zlotys,

HUD display for 3,921 zlotys,

Burmester 3D audio system for 4,731 zlotys to avoid the annoyance of standard speakers,

wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as part of the Digital Add-on: MBUX smartphone integration package for 1,568 zlotys,

MB.Drive Assist autopilot for 7,841 zlotys to relax during long journeys,

360-degree camera parking assistant for 6,142 zlotys,

400 V DC charging system for 2,875 zlotys.

An AC-DC 22 kW onboard charger to reduce time spent at charging stations, for 2,875 zlotys,

a suspension with adaptive damping… no, we’re not adding that because Mercedes will force us to switch to 20-inch wheels and reduce range.

And that’s how our dream, well-equipped Mercedes GLA 250+ Electric now costs 288,865 zlotys.
