Mercedes CLA and GLC now have a waiting period of 6 months. Ordering today means delivery in April 2027.

The electric Mercedes CLA and GLC currently have a waiting time of about six months. Sales executive Mathias Geisen said this during the brand’s 140th anniversary celebrations, where the electric AMG GT SUV was also unveiled. Those who configure a vehicle today will receive it in April 2027.

Geisen did not hide his surprise at the demand for the 800 V models. Since, in his view, the new electric vehicles are already sold out in Europe by the end of the year, Polish customers using the configuration tool will also not be able to get one in time for this year’s holidays.

CLA at 71,000 registrations, GLC outperforms its gasoline predecessor

Mercedes does not disclose sales figures for individual models. Dataforce handled this analysis on its behalf for Handelsblatt. The electric CLA has been registered in Europe over 71,000 times since its debut in September 2025, averaging around 5,400 units per month. Its gasoline-powered predecessor averaged 3,500 units per month during 2021–2024.

The GLC shows even more interesting numbers. Nearly 7,400 electric GLCs were registered in Europe in September. The gasoline version reached a peak of 6,500 units per month in its best year, 2025. According to Germany’s KBA data, both models made it into the top 10 for new electric vehicle registrations in September, with each exceeding 2,000 units registered.

The entire group sold 78,100 electric cars in the third quarter. This is 24 percent more than in the second quarter and 52 percent higher than a year earlier. The share of EVs in passenger car sales rose from 9.6 to 16.8 percent, meaning one in six new Mercedes vehicles is electric.

Geisen said, “Mercedes-Benz Cars achieved its highest quarterly sales of fully electric vehicles in the company’s history, led by the electric GLC, whose sales more than tripled compared to the second quarter. Outside of China, passenger car sales have grown for three consecutive quarters in 2026. Our new electric models—GLC, CLA, GLB, and GLA—are sold out in Europe by the end of the year, with order books extending into 2027. This shows that our model offensive is in full swing.”

Kamenz through three changes, Bremen struggles

To keep up with battery demand, the Accumotive plant in Kamenz, Saxony, has been operating six days a week on a three-shift system since June. Therefore, the bottleneck is not only demand but also battery capacity.

It hasn’t been easy. The new electric GLC, which was the company’s best-selling model in the diesel era, faced difficulties starting production in Bremen. According to media reports, a lack of critical components kept deliveries of this mid-size SUV at a low level. Now, production of the GLC in Bremen and the CLA in Rastatt is running at a good pace.

What else will join the queue

The electric Class C, as well as the GLA and GLB, are also making their way onto roads. This is more likely to extend waiting lists rather than shorten them. Handelsblatt reports that the electric Class E will debut at the IAA in Munich in September 2027, while the electric Class A will arrive in 2028.

Mercedes had trouble convincing customers to switch to EVs half a year ago, and now it’s struggling with orders it can’t fulfill. Would you wait six months for a CLA or GLC, or would you prefer to buy a used car?
