Mercedes transfers its charging operations to Electra

Mercedes is handing over its charging network (47 stations) to Electra: French company CEO Aurelien de Meaux announced this via a LinkedIn post.

Mercedes sells its charging stations: 47 stations, including one in Italy

De Meaux’s announcement has two aspects. On one hand, his company is becoming a premium charging partner for the German automaker. On the other hand, and this is the real news, “Electra is taking control of Mercedes’s network of 47 ultra-fast charging stations.” Most of these are located in Germany (with one in Italy). It represents a significant step forward for the French company, which is playing an increasingly important role in the European market. This is also news with dual implications. On one side, it confirms that automakers are gradually stepping away from a business that isn’t their core focus—entering it only to boost electric vehicles during the initial pioneering phase. On the other side, it shows that a process of consolidation is underway in the charging sector, which will soon lead to further mergers and acquisitions. The French network becoming increasingly prominent in Europe

Mercedes sells charging services

De Meaux explained what selling Mercedes charging services to Electra means: “For Mercedes drivers, there are preferential rates across our entire network. They can also reserve a charging spot in advance, so it will be ready when they arrive. Behind this announcement is an incredibly rapid operational effort. Last weekend, our teams were deployed across Europe to migrate all 47 stations to Electra in just one day!” Indeed, social media is filled with posts expressing astonishment at seeing Mercedes charging stations change color and signage within hours. With this acquisition, Electra now has 82 high-power stations in Germany alone. Meanwhile, Mercedes can focus on developing an increasingly compelling electric vehicle lineup. It sold 68,400 units in the July-September quarter, a 61% increase year-over-year.
