Mercedes expands the electric Class C lineup with a more affordable version

Mercedes-Benz has just expanded the range of the electric Class C in Germany with the launch of the new C 300 4MATIC version, which is more affordable than the already existing C 400 4MATIC. In the German market, the price difference between the two options is 4,760 euros. For now, the luxury brand has not confirmed the pricing for the new model in the Spanish market.

The Class C 300 4MATIC features a twin-motor propulsion system that delivers a combined power output of 421 hp (310 kW). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210 km/h. The battery has a capacity of 85 kWh, sufficient to achieve a WLTP range of 690 km. In terms of charging, it reaches a peak power of 320 kW, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% charge in 22 minutes.

For comparison, the Clase C 400 4MATIC delivers 489 horsepower (360 kW) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds, though the top speed remains unchanged. Aside from power, the main difference lies in its 94.5 kWh battery capacity, which provides a WLTP range of 743 km. With a peak continuous power output of 330 kW, it boasts the same charging times as its smaller sibling. In Spain, this version costs 69,800 euros.

In the future, the range is expected to be expanded with additional mechanical options. According to German media, the next model to arrive will be the rear-wheel-drive Clase C 250, which will use the same 85 kWh battery as the Clase C 300 4MATIC. Due to its lower consumption, it is expected to achieve a WLTP range of around 720 km, with a power output of approximately 354 horsepower (260 kW).

The Mercedes-Benz electric Class C will have up to 800 km WLTP range

The model with the longest range in the lineup will be the future Class C 300+, which will also feature rear-wheel drive and use the 94.5 kWh battery pack from the Class C 400 4MATIC. As Mercedes-Benz announced at the time, it is expected to achieve around 800 km WLTP range. This will enable the electric Class C to surpass the electric CLA’s 790 km WLTP range, which is one tier lower in the lineup.

The variant available will be the Class C 200. Also rear-wheel drive, it will deliver around 313 HP (230 kW) and feature a 64 kWh LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery, sufficient to achieve an approximate WLTP range of 545 km. This will be the only version using this battery chemistry, as the others employ NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) batteries.

At the other end will be the future high-performance AMG version, which is expected to feature a propulsion system consisting of three axial-flow engines (one in front and two behind), the same technology found in the AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ and AMG GT 4-door Coupé. No further details are available at this time regarding this hypothetical flagship model.
