Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Current updates on the second proprietary electric model

Mercedes-AMG has released a new update on its independently developed all-electric performance SUV. Recent teaser images show the still-covered vehicle, featuring a lighting signature that hints at design similarities to the electric AMG GT 4-door coupe. The model is referred to in media as the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV. AMG has not yet disclosed an official model name, a launch date, or complete technical specifications.
The technical foundation has been confirmed. Mercedes-AMG announced the vehicle in November 2024 as the first fully developed SUV at Affalterbach, classifying it as a large vehicle. It is the second production model based on the AMG.EA platform, designed specifically for high-performance electric cars, following the already unveiled electric GT 4-door coupe.
For the SUV, Mercedes-AMG has confirmed axial-flow engines and a new high-performance battery concept similar to those used in the previously launched electric sports sedan. Specific details regarding the number of engines, system power, usable battery capacity, range, and maximum charging speed for the SUV are still missing. However, the model is expected to adopt key powertrain components and performance levels from the GT 4-door coupe.

The already introduced GT 4-door coupe illustrates the technical framework of the AMG.EA architecture. The GT 55 and GT 63 models feature three axial-flow engines, an 800-volt battery with a usable capacity of 106 kWh, and up to 600 kW of DC charging power. The peak output reaches 860 kW/1169 horsepower. Additionally, the GT 53 represents a new entry-level model available with an electric drive offering 400 kW/544 horsepower. As a result, the sport sedan costs between at least 115,430 and 196,350 euros depending on the version in this country.
The axial flow technology has German origins. In June 2026, Mercedes-Benz began mass production of the electric motors designed for particularly dynamic vehicles at its Berlin-Marienfelde plant. The technical principle comes from the British specialist YASA, which has been fully integrated into the German luxury car manufacturer since 2021. Mercedes-AMG highlights compact dimensions and a design optimized for high sustained performance as advantages over conventional radial flow machines.
