Chery, the owner of the OMODA, JAECOO, and Lepas brands in Spain, is among China’s top 5 automakers… and its CEO has a clear goal for the coming years: to expand globally using a strategy inspired by Toyota and Tesla’s best practices.
To achieve this, the European market—remembering they have a factory in Spain, operated by their technology partner EBRO in Barcelona—is crucial. And the owner of OMODA is aware of this. While the C-segment SUVs will be covered by the new OMODA 4 and upcoming OMODA 5, they also plan to target the B-segment or urban SUV market—Europe’s second-largest in sales—with a new hybrid and electric SUV offering up to 450 km of range at a price under 20,000 €.

It has already shown European media its new urban SUV with a range of up to 450 km.
Chery took a select group of journalists to China to unveil its new hybrid and electric urban SUV – with a range of up to 450 km. Although only the cover image of this article has been released, our colleagues at the French publication L’Argus note that the upcoming SUV will also “not look too similar” to the design in the photo, though it will offer
As for its interior, the French publication Frandroid explains that it features a dashboard “in the style of the GAC Aion UT,” along with a small steering wheel and a large central screen.
What both sources confirm officially are its dimensions: approximately 4.15 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 2.60 meters and a trunk capacity of around 360 liters. These figures place it in direct competition with Volkswagen’s latest electric SUV—the ID.Cross, which costs over 20,000 euros even after all discounts—and the Renault 4 E-Tech that we have already tested.
Several French media outlets have also revealed its technical specifications. This new urban SUV will be available as a hybrid model, “very likely” equipped with an electric motor of 70 kW/95 hp, a battery of 1.45 kWh, and a total power output of 163 hp. It will also be offered as an electric version with a range of up to 450 kilometers.

In this latter case, Chery has not disclosed the power of its engine or engines, but it has confirmed that this SUV will be available in Europe with a rear-mounted engine and two batteries.
The first battery is 45 kWh, which should provide a range of 320 km according to the WLT cycle and an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.2 seconds. The second battery is also 56 kWh, enabling a WLTP range of 450 km while allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. Additionally, the two batteries together will allow the vehicle to charge from 10% to 80% in “less than 30 seconds,” according to the owner of OMODA.

OMODA’s owner’s new SUV arrives in 2027
Regarding timelines, if both the OMODA 4 and the new OMODA 5 will arrive in the first half of 2027, the new SUV from its parent company, Chery, should be unveiled by the end of next year, with sales starting “no later than” 2028 in the European markets where Chery is present.
Will it be sold as OMODA, JAECOO, or Lepas? We can rule out this urban SUV being sold under the Lepas brand, mainly because this slightly more premium brand than OMODA and JAECOO has already introduced its new future L4 model, which will serve as its urban SUV.
As for OMODA and JAECOO, we have doubts, and Chery should choose one brand or the other depending on the direction the group wishes to give to its new model.
