Mazda has an electric SUV that can achieve up to 241 km of range in 15 minutes and offers 548 liters in two trunks.

One of the major questions surrounding electric cars to this day is how long it takes a driver to regain range during a long journey. Although the certified figures have improved significantly in recent years, charging speed has become an increasingly important factor when choosing a vehicle. It is precisely in this area that Mazda offers one of the most interesting features of its new electric SUV, capable of restoring up to 241 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes of charging.

The star of the show is the Mazda CX-6e, a fully electric SUV that combines a 78 kWh battery with a 258 HP engine located at the rear axle. This setup enables it to offer rear-wheel drive and achieve up to 484 kilometers of certified range under the WLTP cycle. Additionally, it supports fast charging at up to 200 kW in direct current, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% battery charge in approximately 24 minutes, provided the charging conditions are optimal.

But the new Japanese model also offers a feature that not all electric SUVs come with. In addition to a 468-liter rear trunk, it features a second 80-liter compartment under the front hood, giving a total capacity of 548 liters between the two spaces. This is complemented by a specific tuning for Europe, developed by Mazda engineers in Germany, who worked on the suspension, steering, brakes, and accelerator response to adapt its performance to European roads.

A Japanese design aimed at standing out

This intention is particularly evident in the design. Mazda starts from the idea that the electric vehicle segment is becoming increasingly homogeneous and proposes a more emotional interpretation of the SUV, with athletic proportions, an elegant silhouette, and clean surfaces designed to convey personality without resorting to excesses.

The design was developed by European and Japanese teams, drawing inspiration from concepts such as Kodo and Ma, the latter associated with the beauty of empty space. The goal is to ensure that every surface and element has a clear function, maintaining a minimalist aesthetic that stands apart from some of the more elaborate trends in the market.

Inside the cabin, however, there is one element that is hard to overlook: a massive 26-inch panoramic screen with 5K resolution. Alongside it are digital exterior and interior mirrors with OLED screens, a large-format head-up display, gesture control, and voice recognition via the command “Hey Mazda.”

The connectivity options also include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with apps that allow remote control of various vehicle functions and charging. Mazda frames this approach under the Omotenashi philosophy, a Japanese concept of hospitality that here translates to making technology more intuitive and natural.

Up to 484 km of range and 241 km recovered in 15 minutes

The practical aspect revolves around a 78 kWh LFP battery, which allows the Mazda CX-6e to achieve up to 484 kilometers of range according to the WLTP cycle. For fast charging, it supports up to 200 kW of DC power, a capacity that enables it to go from 10% to 80% charge in approximately 24 minutes.

Mazda also provides another particularly useful figure for imagining a long journey, as this SUV can gain up to 241 kilometers of range after just 15 minutes of charging. The goal is to reduce waiting time on the road and make necessary stops during long trips easier to incorporate into the journey.

Space utilization also plays an important role. The rear trunk offers up to 468 liters, with an additional 80 liters available under the front hood, bringing the total capacity of both compartments to 548 liters.

This is complemented by a towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg, a feature that is uncommon in many electric vehicles and enhances the car’s versatility for trips, leisure, or family use. Mazda aims for the CX-6e to be not only a vehicle suitable for daily commuting but also a viable option for more demanding journeys.

Premium features and a competitive price

Another advantage of the CX-6e lies in its equipment. Starting with the entry-level versions, Mazda aims to reduce reliance on long lists of options by including features typically found in higher segments, such as a panoramic sunroof with shade, heated and ventilated seats, or 256-color ambient lighting.

It also features advanced driver assistance systems and a very comprehensive suite of technologies even in the lower trims. The brand’s goal is to ensure that buyers don’t need to move up too far in the range to enjoy an experience that Mazda intends to place close to the premium segment.

The affordable pricing further supports this approach. The CX-6e starts at 37,615 euros with applicable promotions and incentives, while the Takumi Plus trim is available from 41,065 euros under the same conditions.

There are also subscription options through FlexiOpción starting at 220 euros per month, and leasing options at 654 euros per month plus VAT. Mazda also highlights the expected residual value of the model, which is among the highest compared to its main electric competitors. Additionally, the CX-6e fits into Mazda’s multi-solution strategy, where electric vehicles coexist with other technologies to meet various mobility needs.

Thus, the Mazda CX-6e offers a solution aimed at balancing two worlds that don’t always blend easily: logic and emotion. On one hand, it provides range, fast charging, space, and a very comprehensive suite of features; on the other hand, Mazda emphasizes maintaining its own distinct personality, recognizable aesthetics, and a driving experience that emotionally connects the driver to the vehicle.

In an increasingly competitive electric vehicle market, this combination could turn out to be one of its strongest advantages. The CX-6e aims not only to stand out with impressive performance figures but also to deliver them within a design that preserves Mazda’s identity and takes its approach to automobiles into a fully electric new era.
