MAN eTGX: the new electric truck achieves a range of 720 km and can go from 20% to 80% charge in 30 minutes

MAN unveiled the new generation of the eTGX at IAA Transportation 2026, its heavy-duty electric truck designed primarily for long-distance transportation. This update introduces changes to the aerodynamics, a new generation of batteries, and improvements to the regenerative braking system, all of which further enhance the vehicle’s range.
One of the key advancements lies in the batteries. The new generation uses modules with a gross capacity of 92 kWh and a net capacity of 88 kWh each, compared to the previous batteries’ gross capacity of 89 kWh and net capacity of 80 kWh. The cell chemistry remains NMC, and MAN continues to manufacture and assemble the batteries at its plant in Nuremberg.

More Battery and More Capacity
The eTGX 4x2 can be equipped with up to six batteries, offering a total capacity of 552 kWh gross and 528 kWh net. With this configuration, the maximum advertised range is 660 km, although MAN states that it can cover over 500 km in real-world conditions during typical long-distance operations.
The six-battery configuration retains four wheels and two axles, with traction on the respective axle, but the main innovation in terms of storage capacity is the option to install a seventh battery in the tractor’s front section. This option is available in the 6x2 configuration, which has three axles and six wheels, two of which are drive wheels. With seven battery packs, the capacity reaches 644 kWh gross and 616 kWh net, allowing for a maximum range of 720 km and making it even more versatile for long-distance operations.
While it represents an improvement, the additional range comes not only from increased battery capacity but also from the regenerative braking energy recovery system, which has been improved by 20%, as well as from the revised exterior design aimed at reducing aerodynamic resistance. The front part of the cabin has been extended by 120 millimeters, taking advantage of the possibilities offered by current European regulations for zero-emission vehicles; this modification helps improve aerodynamic performance, resulting in approximately a 3% increase in efficiency compared to the previous model.
Safety improvements
At the same time, the cabin redesign introduces changes aimed at improving safety and direct visibility from the driver’s seat. It features a larger front glass area and an additional lower side window on the passenger door. The goal is to expand the direct field of vision around the vehicle, which is crucial for a heavy, tall, and bulky truck operating in urban environments as well.

Another important factor is the gradual introduction of charging via the MCS (Megawatt Charging System). MAN began producing the first eTGX and eTGS models equipped with this technology at the end of July 2026. It allows the battery to be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, enabling the charging time to align with the driver’s mandatory break and thus reducing the impact on vehicle operation times.
The eTGX is part of MAN’s electric fleet lineup, which at IAA Transportation 2026 includes the eTGL, eTGM, eTGS, and eTGX models, covering vehicles ranging from 12 to 50 tons. This range serves applications ranging from urban delivery and municipal services to construction transport and long-distance operations.
