Madonna di Campiglio: pearl of the Dolomites, but not for charging

Madonna di Campiglio? It’s the pearl of the Dolomites, but there’s still a lot to be done regarding electric vehicle charging, writes one reader. Vaielettrico responds. Write to us at: info@vaielettrico.it

Madonna di Campiglio: charging station occupied by a market stall…

"Breathe, you're in Trentino," reads the promotional campaign encouraging visits to Trentino. If one goes to Madonna di Campiglio, a jewel of the Dolomiti di Brenta, one should be able to breathe in pure air to their fullest. Of course, from what I've experienced, even here charging an electric car—essential for mobility and to allow us to breathe even cleaner air—is not without its issues. The northern part of the town, where I stayed for my vacation, and the southern part are separated, quite rightly, by a pedestrianized central area. The fastest charging stations (high-power DC) are only located in the southern part. So I drove several kilometers along a bypass to reach the most efficient station (100 kW) in the area of Tre Ville. Unfortunately, it was occupied by a craft market, despite its ample space.

Availability of spaces in the area.

Quite annoyed, I went to another high-power charging station (this time in the Pinzolo area). Fortunately, I found an available spot. Given the need to leave as soon as possible, I waited inside the car charging. A few minutes later, a heavy vehicle decided to park in front of the two cars charging spots for quite some time—well over 15 minutes. Despite the wide road and other parking options in front of the hotel where it was unloading goods, it must have thought it would take many hours to charge a car. I tried to minimize my concerns, assuming it was just a coincidence. I had to change my mind when I passed by the same charging station a few days later: one spot was already occupied by a car with an internal combustion engine, even though there were several free spots nearby (photo below). It’s truly ridiculous.

Or that the whole world is a village, even in the pearl of the Dolomiti di Brenta. Thanks to Vaielettrico for its outreach efforts.” Maurizio Ciccone

Response. Trentino is often cited as an example in Italy, even regarding the charging network. And for respecting electric vehicle drivers, many of whom come from Northern Europe. These reports show that there is still a long way to go. On the part of municipalities, which should place their beautiful markets elsewhere. And on the part of those driving conventional vehicles, who should make an effort to park elsewhere. If this doesn’t happen, it would be good to involve the local police, who are generally quite strict in this area.
