Lucid and Bolt want to have at least 25,000 robotaxis in Europe. One day there

Lucid and Bolt have announced that they will deploy 25,000 autonomous Lucid vehicles in Europe’s largest cities, powered by Nvidia Hyperion technology. No specific deployment dates have been given, but Bolt aims to have 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035. This is a significant goal considering the company’s current fleet and Lucid’s manufacturing capabilities.

Let’s start with the statement, as it is bold: 25,000 autonomous taxis would account for 1/10 of all vehicles available through the company’s app by the end of 2025. By “all vehicles,” we mean not only taxis but also scooters or bicycles offered as part of Bolt’s various services in 30 countries around the world (source). These 25,000 taxis are supposed to operate in “Europe’s largest cities,” though there aren’t that many such cities in Europe, meaning there would be at least a few hundred units per metropolis [editorial speculation from Elektrowoz].

Or a few thousand each for the four largest cities.

That’s not all: “At least” 25,000 Lucids is more than the company’s annual production in 2025, which was just under 18,000 units (source). For 2026, production of 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles is planned. Bolt intends to own the fleet, meaning he will need to place a substantial order and purchase the cars. Additionally, we’re talking about models of “Lucid’s upcoming mid-range platform,” which actually doesn’t exist yet and will initially face challenges as new products. In reality, we only have a rough outline of the platform, a name for the car (Lucid Lunar), and a mention that it is in the conceptual stage.

The statements finally indicate that the vehicles and software will be designed jointly by both companies. Neither Bolt nor Lucid has experience in autonomous driving, so they will rely on Nvidia’s Hyperion platform, which combines Nvidia’s hardware with a software suite trained and optimized for Level 4 autonomous driving (SAE Level 4) without a human driver present.
