The Lucid Cosmos is said to offer a longer range than the Tesla Model Y

Lucid CEO Silvio Napoli has for the first time provided a specific range figure for the upcoming Cosmos. In an interview with CNN, he said, according to InsideEVs, that the electric midsize SUV will offer “400 miles plus” on a single charge, which is more than 644 kilometers.
For comparison, Tesla’s main competitor offers its Model Y SUV coupe with a maximum range of 357 miles (575 km) at present. Among similarly positioned electric vehicles in the U.S., none currently achieve a range of 400 miles. However, the Cosmos is still in the prototype and development stage, with official figures based on U.S. EPA and European WLTP standards yet to be released.
The Cosmos is built on Lucid’s new mid-range platform and is set to be the first model in a more affordable lineup below the luxury limousine Air and the luxury SUV Gravity. In March, Lucid announced an entry price of less than $50,000 before taxes (around 43,200 euros) for electric vehicles based on this architecture. The U.S. manufacturer highlights efficiency, interior space, and driving performance as key features of the Cosmos, which is also planned for Europe alongside the Air and Gravity.
Technically, Lucid relies on the newly developed Atlas electric drive for its mid-size platform. According to the manufacturer, this unit is smaller, lighter, and simpler in design than the drives previously used. Identical housings and mounting points for the front and rear axles are also intended to simplify manufacturing. Lucid had promised an efficiency of up to 4.5 miles per kilowatt hour (7.2 km/kWh) for this platform. It remains to be seen what battery size a Cosmos version with a range of over 400 miles will have.
The schedule has now been pushed back. Lucid originally planned to begin production earlier. However, CEO Napoli cited the second half of 2027 as the new timeline for Cosmos. As a result, the most recent range announcement falls during a period when the manufacturer intends to allocate more time to development, process, and quality goals. This is also due to the ongoing economic challenges faced by the startup. In addition to Cosmos, two more electric vehicles are set to launch on the new mid-range platform.
