MG’s wealthy brothers set a price for their new electric SUV with an aircraft chassis that directly competes with the Tesla Model Y

After months of anticipation and a pre-order period that saw over 8,000 orders placed in just 45 minutes, IM Motors has officially launched the new generation of the LS6, bringing cable-driven chassis technology to the family SUV segment at a price around 200,000 yuan. This premium brand under SAIC Motor has now confirmed the final prices, which are lower than those announced during the pre-orders on September 10. In early 2024, MG announced the introduction of the IM brand in Europe, though it has so far only been launched in the United Kingdom.
The new LS6 is available in three electric versions, with prices after incentives ranging from 197,900 yuan, approximately 25,727 euros at the current exchange rate, to 259,900 yuan, around 33,787 euros. The official guide prices, without incentives, fall between 202,900 and 264,900 yuan, that is, between 26,377 and 34,437 euros. Considering its equipment, size, and performance, the LS6 is a worthy and strong competitor to the Tesla Model Y.
A five-seater family SUV with standard cable-driven steering
Positioned as a five-seater family SUV with a fully cable-controlled chassis, the new LS6 measures 4,937 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,671 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. This system is precisely the model’s main selling point: all versions come standard with cable steering, intelligent four-wheel steering with a 18-degree bidirectional range, and the Lingxi 3.0 digital chassis. The Ultra version has a minimum turning radius of 4.49 meters.
IM Motors compares this technology to aviation’s fly-by-wire systems, relying heavily on that aerospace inspiration in its marketing efforts. The Ultra version adds pneumatic suspension and electronically controlled adaptive damping. All versions use an 800-volt platform. Charging from 10% to 80% takes between 16.8 and 20.3 minutes depending on the variant, while a 15-minute charge adds between 420 and 530 kilometers of range.
Engines up to 500 kW and three battery capacities
The Max and Pro Max versions are equipped with a single rear-wheel drive motor, offering two power levels: 245 kW (329 HP) for the base version and 300 kW (408 HP) for the more powerful variant. The IM LS6 Ultra uses a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration with a combined power output of 500 kW (680 HP). The battery capacities are 76 kWh, 93 kWh, and 103 kWh respectively, with certified ranges of 650, 782, and 750 kilometers (CLTC) respectively. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration times are 6.4, 5.4, and 3.48 seconds respectively.
A cabin with dual screens and a double-door refrigerator
The cabin features a dual 27.1-inch MiniLED 5K display and an additional 15.6-inch screen for the passenger, along with the IM Claw artificial intelligence assistant integrated with Alibaba’s Qwen language model. Other features include a B&O sound system, 4D massage seats, and an 11-liter refrigerator with doors that open from both sides.
The brand’s most important model in a highly competitive segment
The LS6, first launched in October 2023, is IM Motors’ top-selling vehicle. This new model comes as the latest addition to the brand’s “NEXT·2028” strategy, following the updated IM L6 released on August 28. The 200,000 to 300,000 yuan price segment for five-seater SUVs is one of the most competitive in China, with rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, Xiaomi YU7, Luxeed R7, and Li Auto L6.
