Xiaomi has once again proven its ability to generate excitement in the Chinese and global automotive markets. The SkyNomad series, consisting of the SUVs N70 and N90, went on sale on September 7th, and within just one week it has received nearly 40,000 pre-orders, according to unofficial sources. This figure confirms that the consumer electronics manufacturer continues to gain followers in such a competitive segment as family SUVs. Meanwhile, Xiaomi is working on expanding internationally with its entry into Europe at the beginning of 2027.
The news is noteworthy because it’s not an isolated product but rather the third entry in Xiaomi Auto’s lineup, which has so far relied on the Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi YU7, both featuring 100% electric mechanical systems. With the SkyNomad, the brand expands its offerings to a different type of customer—ones more focused on family use—and tests whether its successful formula can be replicated in a segment with greater direct competition.
Four versions and an immediate sales success

The SkyNomad series consists of four models: N70 Pro, N70 Max, N90 Max, and N90 Max Explorer Edition, with prices ranging from 209,900 yuan, approximately 27,287 euros at the current exchange rate, to 299,900 yuan, around 38,987 euros. The impact was immediate: just four minutes after the launch, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, announced that pre-orders had already exceeded 10,000 units. Deliveries began on September 12 in 75 Chinese cities, with estimated delivery times of one to five weeks.
According to data collected from the sales outlets themselves, each SkyNomad store received between 80 and 100 blocked orders during its first week. Visitor traffic to the dealerships increased by about 300% compared to previous levels, with around 80% of those visits coming from actual potential buyers rather than just curious onlookers. Xiaomi began distributing SkyNomad series vehicles to its dealerships on July 30, already covering 499 stores in 146 Chinese cities.
A buyer who already knows the market

The profile of those booking SkyNomad is quite distinct. They are mainly people aged between 30 and 45, with men accounting for around 80% of buyers. Nearly 80% of the reservations also come from buyers replacing an existing vehicle, whether it was a conventional car or one powered by alternative fuels, indicating that these are mostly not first-time purchases but rather vehicle renewals.
Within this range, the most equipped versions account for the majority of orders. The N90 series makes up around 60% of the total, the N70 about 25%, and the N90 Explorer edition roughly 15%. According to feedback from dealerships, two specific features are particularly attracting buyers: the N90’s long-range sliding rail system and its 505-kilometer electric range under the CLTC cycle. The official specifications list a combined range of 1,705 kilometers. Several customers who have already tested drive it also highlight the interior space and cabin layout as advantages for family use.
Who is the SkyNomad really competing with?

Purchasers are comparing the SkyNomad to a wide range of competitors, with Li Auto and Xpeng being the most common references. Around 30% compare it to the Li L6 and L8, another 30% to the Xpeng G9L and GX, 20% consider it against monovans such as the Voyah Dream or Buick GL8, with the remaining comparisons split between the Nio ES8 and models from the Hongmeng series (HIMA).
The arrival of the SkyNomad expands Xiaomi Auto’s product lineup at a time when the brand has just surpassed 800,000 units delivered in about 29 months, with monthly deliveries exceeding 30,000 units for five consecutive months from April to August. If the current pending orders are fulfilled at a reasonable pace, the SkyNomad series could help Xiaomi Auto bring its monthly deliveries closer to 40,000 units.
