Rhenus’ delivery service is expanding its electric fleet in Poland
Rhenus is expanding its electric fleet in Poland from nine delivery vehicles to a total of 33 electric trucks. These vehicles are primarily used for last-mile deliveries in large urban areas and when access restrictions are in place.
The nine new electric trucks each have a maximum allowable weight of 4.25 tons. The announcement from Rhenus does not specify which manufacturers or models will be used. What is clear, however, is that with this expansion, the logistics company’s electric fleet in Poland will grow to 33 delivery vehicles in total. These electric trucks will primarily be used for last-mile deliveries in Poland’s largest urban areas, with Rhenus focusing especially on regions with access restrictions due to emissions. The long-term goal of this project is to fully transition these distribution activities to electric transportation solutions.
According to Rhenus, the expansion is also driven by changed requirements from clients. Sustainability criteria and the use of electric vehicles are increasingly becoming part of bidding processes in the logistics sector. “Expanding our electric fleet is a direct response to our customers’ specific expectations and part of a broader transformation in the market,” says Mariusz Kazimierczak, Sales Director Central-East Cluster at Rhenus Delivery Services. Rhenus also indicates that the fleet could continue to grow, with similar projects planned in locations that meet the needs of respective clients. However, Rhenus does not specify a concrete fleet target.
The expansion in Poland is part of Rhenus’s efforts to test various low-emission propulsion solutions. While the company relies on battery-electric vehicles for urban last-mile delivery, it is also currently gathering experience with battery and hydrogen trucks for heavy-duty and long-distance transportation. For example, since early 2026, a Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck has been operating in regular logistics services at the Duisburg site. The one-year test includes regional trips as well as long-distance journeys of up to 650 kilometers.
