LichtBlick is using battery storage for fast charging for the first time

LichtBlick eMobility GmbH continues to expand its “QuickCharge” network. According to the energy provider, 27 locations are now in operation. The charging infrastructure is located at various Famila-, Markant-, and Edeka stores in northern Germany, aiming to enable fast charging in everyday situations, such as while shopping.
Two new fast-charging stations with battery storage have been added to the network. The battery storage systems in Stralsund and Heiligenhafen each have a capacity of 330 kilowatts and a storage duration of two hours. These storage systems enable high charging speeds even when grid connection capacity is limited. Additionally, they help balance peak loads, thereby supporting the efficient operation of charging infrastructure.
"Especially in regions with limited grid capacity, battery storage can help e-vehicle owners charge their vehicles quickly and comfortably. For us as operators of charging infrastructure, this is important to provide customers with a reliable charging experience. Wherever battery storage can meaningfully complement the development of new charging infrastructure, we are considering its use," says Simon Schröder, Project Management Director at LichtBlick eMobility.
The battery storage facilities in Stralsund and Heiligenhafen are part of LichtBlick’s strategy to better integrate charging infrastructure with flexibility solutions. According to the company, it plans to invest over 100 million euros solely in the electric mobility sector by 2030. Additionally, LichtBlick is currently building a large-scale battery storage facility in Röhrsdorf near Chemnitz with a capacity of around 100 megawatts and a storage duration of four hours. The goal is to reduce strain on power grids while providing additional flexibility for an increasingly renewable energy system.
