Restyled Lexus NX: A deeper evolution than it appears for this hybrid SUV
The Lexus NX has established itself as one of Toyota’s premium brand pillars. Following in the footsteps of its technical sibling, the RAV4, it receives a significant upgrade both stylistically and technically.
Just as in 2022 with the introduction of the plug-in hybrid, the NX brings a range of new features to Lexus’s European lineup. It shares many elements with the brand’s latest models, such as the sedan ES or the 7-seater electric SUV TZ. Yet its role as a flagship model facilitates their introduction to the Old Continent.

On the RAV4, Toyota promoted a completely new model. Here, Lexus acknowledges that it is merely an intermediate evolution. Despite being quite substantial, the overall silhouette remains unchanged and easily recognizable. The front and rear designs have changed noticeably, however. A new, more geometric yet less imposing grille still dominates the front end. At the back, a continuous light bar with a double L-shaped lighting signature features the manufacturer’s illuminated name.
The interior is where changes are most distinct, with a completely new dashboard that offers better airflow. The central screen, now 14 inches large, floats above a more horizontal layout that makes the vehicle appear wider. Physical controls remain available but are now touch-based and disappear when the vehicle is turned off.
Using the term “restyling” would limit the scope of the evolution of this NX, which has seen its entire chassis completely overhauled. Lexus aimed to give it a more dynamic driving experience, as demonstrated by the final tuning on the Nürburgring.
On paper, the hybrid powertrain of the Lexus NX350h hasn’t changed much, still delivering 200 horsepower. However, it incorporates advancements seen in the ES300h, including a completely new lighter battery. The towing capacity has also increased to 1500 kg. All versions are available with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
The NX450h+ plug-in hybrid has seen more significant changes. Still only available with four-wheel drive, it now boasts a combined power output of 307 horsepower, up from 292 in the previous model. This actually brings it back to the power level of the model when it was first introduced (309 horsepower). But the most interesting improvement is in the battery.
Located beneath the floor, its battery capacity increases from 18 to 23 kWh. This significant improvement boosts the electric range to over 100 km. The NX450h+ is also the first Lexus PHEV to feature DC fast charging, capable of reaching 80% charge in just 30 minutes.
Launch in France is scheduled for early 2027.
