After launching production of the B10 in Spain, Leapmotor confirms that another electric model will soon roll off the assembly lines at Stellantis’ plants in Europe. The B05 will be assembled in Zaragoza—a strategic choice that could have significant implications for its price and eligibility for French subsidies.

Just a few days after announcing the production of the Leapmotor B10 in Spain, Stellantis and its Chinese partner have already unveiled the next step. This time, it’s the Leapmotor B05 that will join the production plans at the Zaragoza plant, marking another milestone in the manufacturer’s European strategy.

Leapmotor Accelerates Production in Europe

Last October 16, Stellantis celebrated the start of production for the B10 at its Spanish plant. Three days later, Leapmotor confirmed that its electric compact car, the B05, will follow the same path. However, the manufacturer has not specified an official date for launching this new production line. According to previous reports, it could begin in the third quarter of 2027.

The Leapmotor B10 Made in Europe: Good News for French Buyers

This choice is far from trivial. By leveraging Stellantis’ industrial capabilities, Leapmotor can accelerate its expansion in Europe without having to build its own factories. The Franco-Italian-American group makes its facilities, employees, and supplier network available. It’s a way to quickly strengthen the industrial presence of its Chinese partner. And that makes all the difference!

Good news for French drivers?

Just like with the B10, this European production could also affect the commercial positioning of the B05. Currently imported from China, this compact vehicle is subject to additional tariffs imposed by the European Union on Chinese electric cars (30.7% for Leapmotor models). Manufacturing it in Spain could help avoid these extra taxes on finished vehicles.

But the biggest advantage for us is access to the EU subsidy. Similar to the B10, European production could facilitate B05 eligibility, provided that the required environmental standards are met. It will be necessary to verify the origin of the batteries and the vehicle’s environmental score. Nothing is automatic at this stage.

Even before any subsidies, the B05 already has a very high price tag, starting at 25,400 euros—already a significant difference from the Peugeot e-308! This 4.43-meter compact vehicle delivers 218 horsepower and comes with two battery options of 56.2 and 67.1 kWh, offering ranges of 401 and 482 km respectively under WLTP standards. These are impressive specifications given its price point. Future European production could thus allow Leapmotor to further reduce its prices.
