The Tesla Semi is finally arriving in Europe: here are its range and charging speed!
Tesla is preparing the launch of its electric truck in Europe. Just days before its presentation at the IAA Transportation event in Hanover, where Automobile Propre will also be present, the company is revealing the features of the Semi tailored for our market.
The Tesla Semi is finally set to cross the Atlantic. Already available in the United States, where several companies have been using it for several years, this electric truck from Elon Musk’s company is now preparing to enter the European market. Tesla will use the IAA Transportation exhibition, held in Hanover from September 14 to 20, 2026, to introduce the version designed for our continent. While waiting for the event to begin, the manufacturer is revealing its key technical specifications. And they differ only slightly from those of the American Semi.
Same as in the U.S., or almost
In its European configuration, the Tesla Semi boasts an estimated range of 550 km and a power consumption of 1 kWh/km, which equals 100 kWh per 100 km, though the manufacturer still hasn’t disclosed the battery capacity.
This figure places the European model in the same category as the American Standard Range model, which boasts a range of 325 miles, or about 523 kilometers. There is also a Long Range version on the other side of the Atlantic that reaches 500 miles, roughly 805 kilometers, but it has not yet been announced for this side of the ocean. Both models show an estimated fuel consumption of 1.7 kWh per mile, equivalent to about 1.06 kWh per kilometer.

Be careful, however, not to compare the figures too directly: Tesla specifies the conditions used to estimate range in the U.S., including a total weight of 82,000 lb (37.2 tons), a speed of 55 mph (88 km/h), and a temperature of 20 °C. The European figures, on the other hand, remain provisional and subject to approval.
In terms of charging, the European Tesla Semi can handle up to 800 kW. This substantial power allows it, according to the manufacturer, to regain up to 60% of its range in 30 minutes, which would theoretically correspond to 330 km based on a claimed range of 550 km.
Almost 1,100 horsepower for Tesla’s electric truck
Like in the United States, the European Semi relies on three independent electric motors mounted on the rear axles. Tesla claims a maximum power output of 800 kW, which is approximately 1,090 horsepower. That’s more than a Tesla Model S Plaid! The manufacturer particularly highlights the truck’s ability to maintain strong performance when loaded and on steep slopes. An electric power take-off (ePTO) capable of delivering up to 25 kW is also included.
The European model will have a curb weight of less than 9,100 kg and a gross vehicle weight rating of 40 tons, corresponding to roughly 20,000 pounds—the same as the American Standard Range version—while the Long Range model reaches 23,000 pounds, or about 10.4 tons.
Tesla promises reduced operating costs
Beyond performance, Tesla aims primarily to convince logistics companies based on economic factors. The manufacturer claims that the cost of electricity per kilometer can be lower than that of diesel, and highlights the reduced maintenance needs of an electric drive system. The absence of a diesel engine, conventional transmission, or exhaust aftertreatment system should decrease maintenance tasks. Tesla also relies on remote diagnostics and software updates to minimize vehicle downtime.

There is still one essential factor to verify these promises: the price of the European Semi has not yet been announced. The cost of the infrastructure needed to support such high charging capacities will also play a role in carriers’ calculations.
First European deliveries in 2027
This European version of the Tesla Semi will make its first public appearance at the IAA Transportation in Hanover, where on-board tests will be offered. The manufacturer has now set a deadline: first deliveries to European customers are expected to begin in 2027. More information about the truck and its rollout will be released in the coming months.
Tesla will enter a European market where electric trucks are no longer a novelty. It remains to be seen whether the 550 km range, 800 kW charging capability, and promised operating costs will allow the Semi to gain a foothold against the electric trucks already offered by manufacturers on the Old Continent, such as Renault, Mercedes, Scania, Volvo, and MAN.
