The electric lifted SUV Subaru E-Outback is available at dealerships.
Revealed last July, the Subaru E-Outback has now arrived at dealerships in France with a price starting at 52,990 euros.
Up to 523 km of range
With numerous comparisons in automotive media debating whether to choose an SUV or a station wagon, Subaru addressed this issue by introducing its E-Outback as a hybrid option that can handle both daily commuting and adventure trips.
It derives its power from two permanent magnet synchronous motors, each capable of producing up to 167 kW (227 hp) of power and a maximum torque of 268 Nm. Together, they deliver 280 kW (375 hp), enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 180 km/h.
The 391 V battery, consisting of 104 cells, has an energy capacity of 74.7 kWh, giving this new electric vehicle a range of up to 523 km in the WLTP mixed cycle. At a fast charging station, its charging rate can reach 150 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% charge in 28 minutes regardless of weather conditions, thanks to battery preconditioning.
Note that the Subaru E-Outback manufactured at the Gunma Yamija factory in Japan is equipped with a 22 kW AC charger. This is great news for drivers who often want to charge at the stations installed throughout France by energy unions. It will then take less than four hours to fully recharge the lithium-ion battery pack.
6 cm longer and taller than a Tesla Model Y
Since the Subaru brand is primarily known only to those interested in it, the vast majority of French drivers are unaware that this Japanese manufacturer has been producing its elevated station wagon model, the Outback, since 1995. Over just over 30 years, 429,000 units of this model have been sold in Europe, with global production exceeding 7.7 million units.
At 4.85 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 2.85 meters and a width of 1.86 meters, this first electric version is 6 cm longer and taller than the Tesla Model Y. If the 633 liters of trunk space aren’t enough, note that the roof rails are designed to support a load of up to 80 kg while moving (317 kg statically, for example, to accommodate a tent and passengers at night).
This model is also approved to tow a braked trailer weighing up to 1,500 kg. With the vehicle’s own weight just over two tons when in motion, the Subaru E-Outback will not be exempt from paying for parking in Paris.
In the center of the dashboard, the touchscreen is wirelessly compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Above it are two 15 W wireless charging pads for smartphones. Passengers in the back seat can use USB-C ports for their portable devices.
Driving and Safety
Thanks to the two levers behind the steering wheel, the driver can adjust the intensity of regenerative braking across five levels. During deceleration, this force is distributed variably between the wheels of both axles to “maintain a stable vehicle posture and maximize rear tire contact with the road.”
During acceleration, power is distributed precisely and differently to maintain control even under variable road traction conditions. It is also possible to adjust the suspension settings as well as those of the power steering system. With the latter, one can tailor the steering feel to match handling requirements or road conditions.
In the 2025 Euro NCAP safety tests, the Subaru E-Outback achieved the maximum five-star rating, with scores of 89% for the safety of drivers and passengers; 85% for child safety in the vehicle; 80% for road user protection; and 79% for driving assistance technologies.
Starting at 52,990 euros
The Subaru E-Outback is available in two trim levels, starting at 52,990 euros and 55,990 euros respectively: 4Xperience and 4Xperience+. These trims do not differ in terms of engine or battery capacity. However, there is a slight difference in range due to the wheel diameter increasing from 18 inches to 20 inches on the higher trim level.
The 4Xperience+ trim also includes a panoramic glass roof, exterior mirrors with memory function that adjust based on the driver’s seat position and automatically tilt when reversing, ventilation in the front seats, and a Harman Kardon audio system with ten speakers, a subwoofer, and an eight-channel amplifier.
By default, the warranty in France is three years and 100,000 kilometers. But if you continue to have the vehicle serviced through the manufacturer’s network, the coverage is extended by one year until the tenth year or 200,000 kilometers.
Subaru offers an leasing option for the E-Outback at 549 euros per month, with no down payment, over ten years. What is the mileage limit during this period? The press release dated August 25, 2026, does not specify this. It will therefore have to be determined at the dealership… unless it can be negotiated.
