Production of the Polestar 2 has ended, but its replacement is just around the corner.

The production of the Polestar 2, which for a long time was the brand’s mainstay, has ended. Although an official announcement about the cessation of its manufacturing has not yet been made, various media outlets report that the last units have already left the Luqiao plant in China. In any case, existing stock will allow it to remain on the market for some time.
The second generation of this model is set to arrive in 2027. It appears that, to make room for the future Polestar 7—a compact SUV expected in 2028—the new Polestar 2 will lose the crossover features of the current model and become a sedan with more traditional styling. This will enable it to compete directly with models such as the BMW i3.
We can expect significant advancements on a technical level. The current Polestar 2 has a range of up to 659 km according to WLTP standards; however, models like the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Class C already achieve around 800 km, while the aforementioned BMW i3 exceeds 900 km WLTP. Therefore, a major leap forward will be necessary to keep up with competitors.
We assume it will also feature an 800-volt architecture compatible with ultra-fast charging. Although not confirmed, it is highly likely to be based on the SPA3 platform used in the Volvo EX60. After all, the Polestar 3 already uses the SPA2 platform from the EX90. These synergies would explain the rapid development of this vehicle.

The Polestar 7 Will Be Manufactured in Europe
It is confirmed that the Polestar 7 will be produced at Volvo’s new plant in Slovakia; however, it is unclear whether the same will apply to the new Polestar 2. Given the increasing protectionism in the European Union toward cars of Chinese origin (which will intensify in the coming years with the implementation of ‘Made in Europe’ regulations), it would not be surprising if this sedan is also made on the old continent.
At the beginning of the year, Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller announced the launch of four new models by 2028. Two of them, the Polestar 4 SUV and Polestar 5, have already been unveiled. "Following our best sales year ever, we are launching the largest model rollout in our history, with four premium electric vehicles set to hit the market in three years. We are targeting the main electric vehicle market, where demand and profits are high. Along with the continued expansion of our sales network and growing customer base, we are laying the foundation for profitable growth and operational improvements."

"With the Polestar 7, we are entering Europe’s largest electric vehicle segment—the compact SUV segment—which accounted for approximately one third of the total electric vehicle volume in 2025. We are confident that we can offer customers a high-performance and forward-thinking car at a very attractive price, manufactured in Europe."
