The electric city car priced at 6,000 euros now has 5 doors and more space.

FAW has launched the five-door version of the Bestune Pony in China, which was previously available only in three-door form and also known as the Joyee N01. The starting price remains low at 44,900 yuan, equivalent to around 6,000 euros based on the current exchange rate.

The real innovation lies in the interior space: the vehicle’s body size has increased, and the trunk now offers greater usable capacity. Meanwhile, the three-door version sold 47,929 units in China from January to September 2026, a 37.5% decline compared to the previous year. The five-door Pony aims to expand its potential customer base, but it is still unclear whether it is ready for international markets, including Europe.

The price starts at 44,900 yuan (6,000 euros) for the base version and rises to 54,900 yuan (7,300 euros) for the higher trim. It is powered by a 30 kW (40 hp) rear electric motor, paired with two LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate, the most cost-effective and durable chemistry, though less dense than alternatives) batteries with capacities of 17 or 27.2 kWh.

The declared range is between 222 and 328 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, which is less stringent than the European one. The same sources indicate a conversion to the WLTP cycle yields 182 to 269 km. This remains a theoretical figure, as the car does not have European homologation and is not intended for the Italian market. The top speed is limited to 103 km/h, suitable for purely urban use.

Bestune Pony 5-door: Dimensions and Trunk Space

The vehicle’s length is 3,350 mm, compared to around 3,000 mm for the three-door version—a difference of 350 mm that primarily provides more space for rear passengers. The wheelbase increases by 262 mm to 2,215 mm, accounting for much of the improved interior space.

The width increases to 1,540 mm (+30 mm), while the height decreases to 1,600 mm (-30 mm). It’s a city car that is slightly lower and more streamlined.

The trunk capacity increases from a modest size to 265 liters with the seats in use, which is already higher than that of many direct competitors in this segment. The capacity with the seats folded down is not specified in the official technical specifications.

Comparing it to other low-cost Chinese models that have recently entered the market helps put the Pony in perspective. The Geely Xingyuan EX2, the best-selling car in China in 2025 and likely through at least the first half of 2026, offers a still-competitive price point but with a more comprehensive feature set. The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV remains the benchmark for the mini vehicle segment. Even the Leapmotor B05, with prices starting at 11,890 euros in China, shows how the lower end of the Chinese market is filling up with increasingly practical alternatives. FAW has not yet announced any plans to export its five-door Pony.
