Kia is introducing the PV5 WAV to its Polish pricing list, an electric van factory-prepared for transporting people in wheelchairs. Prices effective from September 18, 2026, start at 197,600 PLN gross, with the version equipped with a 71.2 kWh battery costing from 215,000 PLN.

The most interesting aspect here isn’t just the presence of a ramp. Kia is selling a fully prepared vehicle, not a basic van that would need to be sent to a customization company after purchase.

Wheelchair enters from the side, caregiver sits beside

The PV5 WAV Side Entry features a two-stage, manually deployable ramp next to the right sliding door. Its width is 744 mm, and the maximum inclination angle when entering from the road surface is 13.1 degrees. At a curb height of 150 mm, it drops to around 11 degrees.

The side access solution addresses a mundane yet important issue. There’s no need to leave space behind the vehicle or unfold a ramp from the road side. In cities, at parking lots near clinics, or in front of apartment buildings, this can be more convenient than a traditional conversion with rear access.

Kia redesigned the floor and integrated wheelchair mounts during production. The manufacturer calls this process Made-In-Plant. In practice, this means the PV5 WAV isn’t a standard van with a ramp and straps added later, but rather a variant designed structurally for a specific purpose.

With the wheelchair installed, the cabin has a 2-1-1 layout. The person in the wheelchair sits more centrally, while the caregiver can take a seat right next to them. The vehicle typically offers five seats, though the number of available seats naturally decreases once the wheelchair is in place.

A version with a rear entrance, developed in collaboration with AMF-Bruns, is also available. It can accommodate up to six people but will be produced individually. The Side Entry version is included in the regular Polish price list.

Two batteries, up to 391 km WLTP range and 30-minute charging

The PV5 WAV is based on the E-GMP.S platform for commercial and specialized vehicles. The van has a length of 4695 mm, width of 1895 mm, height of 1899 mm, and a wheelbase of 2995 mm. The trunk holds 350 liters, and the turning radius is 11 meters.

The extra cost for a larger battery is 17,400 zł in both trim levels. In return, the customer gets a WLTP range of 109 km more and an engine that is 41 KM more powerful. In this vehicle, a larger battery makes sense compared to many passenger electric cars, as a van with a ramp, passengers, and equipment will be under greater load.

The declared energy consumption is 20.2 kWh/100 km for the 51.5 kWh battery and 20.4 kWh/100 km for the 71.2 kWh battery. The difference is small, but WLTP values should be treated as a reference point. In winter, with frequent short trips and cabin heating, the actual figure will be higher.

Both versions are capable of reaching a top speed of 135 km/h. Kia has not yet provided the 0-100 km/h acceleration figure, and some technical data remains pending approval.

Charging from 10% to 80% using a fast DC charger should take about 30 minutes. The onboard AC charger has a power output of 10.5 kW. With an 11 kW wallbox, charging from 10% to 100% takes approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes for a smaller battery and 6 hours and 30 minutes for a larger one.

Kia includes a mobile 11 kW Green Cell Habu SE charger with a 230 V converter as part of the price. A heat pump and V2D, which allows devices to be powered by the car’s battery, are also standard features.

Cheaper than competitors before adding interior upgrades

The base PV5 WAV Pro comes equipped with an adaptive Stop & Go cruise control, a rearview camera, parking sensors at the front and back, automatic braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, heated seats and steering wheel. It also features a 12.9-inch screen with Android Automotive OS, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Pro Plus costs 14,700 zł more. It includes features such as 360-degree cameras, electric adjustment for the front seats, blind spot monitoring, electrically operated sliding doors on both sides, and an electric trunk lid.

Before any discounts, the Toyota Proace Verso Electric starts at 227,200 zł, the Peugeot E-Traveller at 230,200 zł, and the Ford E-Tourneo Custom Titanium at 261,160 zł. All these prices apply to standard vans without modifications for transporting people in wheelchairs. Additional costs then arise for ramps, lowered floors, mounting systems, and vehicle modification approvals.

Kia hasn’t created a cheap electric van. Instead, it offers a complete package where the price already includes what is usually added at the end and priced separately. Is a side entrance more convenient for you than a traditional ramp at the back of the vehicle?
